Black Hawk
Bored so I googled Wu Ching-heng (also known as Wu Chih-hui, a philosopher and one of the founders of the Republic of China, was chosen to direct the task of creating a truly national language that would transcend locality and dialect. Due to the domination of the numerically superior Mandarin-speaking delegates, the Peking dialect was voted for the general foundation of the new national language 'guoyu' (national speech). It embodies the pronunciation of Peking, the grammar of the Mandarin dialects, and the vocabulary of modern vernacular Chinese literature, but features of various local dialects were also incorporated. Guoyu is now the official language of mainland China, Taiwan and one of the official languages of Singapore. After the establishment of the People's Republic of China in 1949 it was renamed to putonghua (common language) . In 1956, it became the medium of instruction in all schools nationwide and a policy of promoting its use began. It is now the most widely used form of spoken Chinese. In Taiwan, it still goes under the name of guoyu, or 'national speech'. In the West it is generally referred to Mandarin.

Frank
Remember that the lenguaje bigger of the world is the spanish en the second place is the english... Kinda off topic, but where is some information that backs this statement up? I would highly doubt (I could be wrong, it has happened before :p ) that Spanish is the #1 language spoken in the world. This isn't a post trying to put anyone down, or make fun of the poster, but If this is a fact, I would like to see some documentation on this. I found it. Spanish, with +/- 332 million speakers, is no. 2 behind Mandarin Chinese at +/- 885 million speakers. English is right behind Spanish at +/- 322 million speakers, so it was close. Steven P. Administrators Posted June 25, 2004 Administrators Share Posted June 25, 2004 also that would mean we would need to get some spanish mods. We have a Spanish speaking mod, in fact neowin has a few mods whos primary language is NOT English.. We will stay English however because its like others have said, admins have to be able to monitor it all and in a language we can understand. Your english is better than 90% of the native speakers on this board. because its easier to me to write in spanish and it will be interesting to use my native language in my fav website
