Chat Link On Main Page

Recommended Posts

I've talked to a couple users in the chat room recently, but there's barely any traffic in there (aside from a few people who have permanently taken up residence). I looked for a link on the main page to the chat room, but I can't find one. The only other one I know of is the small button next to the search button, and we all know how often that gets used by the general public. ;)

Anyway, it might bring more traffic to the chat room and increase interactivity if more people were made aware that there is a chat room. Link it from the three main news pages, perhaps or advertise it a little more?

Maybe a simple link or two?

Example:

Please don't flame me for this. I'm just making a suggestion for a little known, little used feature that could be enjoyed more.

I'm in there right now, and Michael ain't talking.

And I don't think you'll get any flames for this, I also think that the chat room needs to be better advertised.

I have recently gotten into the habit of spraying all my posts with flame retardant. I ran out of troll repellent, so this is the best I can do. :)

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. Chat links, anyone?

I don't mean to keep resurrecting a dead thread, but not even a reply from any of the coders? Can I at least get a "We just don't care about it" or something? :)

You're not there either are you?

I'm not there all the time, much like I'm not in the forums or on Neowin at all all the time. I just figured if more people saw a link on the main page, they might jump into the chat room more.

Besides, it's not much fun to sit in there with 2 other people who never talk. Why would I be in there when I'm the only one there?

I'm using this button:

Yes, I know what button you are using. Did you notice the topic of the thread?

Chat Link On Main Page.

Can you please make a screen cap with a gaudy red circle around the link to the chat room from the Main page, please?

What I meant was that I think you notice that button before the one in main page.

There's been more of these threads.. and I don't see the point. If people wanna chat in there, they'll join. Simple as that.

I'll never know why the chat function isn't more popular.

Perhaps it does need to be advertised more. Or perhaps we need scheduled chats on certain topics.

P.S., I'll be in there for another 40 minutes, if anyone wants to chat

The chat link on the main page doesn't work, at least not for me. When I click on it, it says "We're sorry. This chat room may not be accessed from this page."

The chat link located in the forum works fine, though.

Firefox 0.9.1 and IE6. Same problem on both! I'm using Sun Java, not sure if that makes a difference.

I think its something to do with the java, because you need to install it and I don't want to install it just to talk to Michael...... :D
