Max Veteran Posted June 27, 2004 Veteran Share Posted June 27, 2004 Hey, I am 16 years old and I am currently studying ICT and AVCE Business Studies, along with my CompTIA A+ and N+ which I study at home. In a year's time, I will be going to university - hopefully to study Computer Engineering for 3/4 years. After that, I want to move. My first point to be made is Tax. If you know me that well on these forums you will know that I am anti-UK and I love slagging off my own country. We have 17.5% VAT on all goods. Some parts of the US have 15% I think and some parts have between 2% and 5%. Our government likes to use discrimination a lot. We are also connned on many, many different items that some of us HAVE to use everyday (e.g: petrol). Another thing I would like to point out is the atmosphere: rubbish. We pay so much to our government - and our streets are not even swept properly. My road gets cleaned once every 6 months - bearing in mind that I live 20 seconds walk away from a primary school, meaning we get the kids coming up my road and making a mess. I'm totally fed up with this country, and I want out ASAP. Down to business: I would like a flat, in a reasonably high populated area (nowhere out in the sticks). One bedroomed flat/apartment with a kitchen/kitchenette is all I want. How much would one of these cost? P.S: If you are thinking of moving to the UK, don't. :) *Max over and out* Bah, I am in such a mood I placed this in the gamers forum *RAGE* rofl. Mods please move, thank you. One bedroomed flat/apartment with a kitchen/kitchenette is all I want. It really just depends on the location. If you are talking like New York City, you could be looking at a couple thousand a month in some places, where in other cities you could find a comparable place for only a couple hundred... Its hard to tell you without knowing where ;)
Max Veteran Posted June 27, 2004 Author Veteran Share Posted June 27, 2004 Moved hereTo buy a house, or to rent something? That will depend on what part of Canada you want to look at. Both really, I want to look at many diffferent angles. I wouldn't mind being in a city, just somewhere where I can start up my own small business where there willl be customers available. I would like a pleasant place to live. I don't want to be above the local drug den and at the same time I don't want to have chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. -}x0{-
I have heard that Canada is good. How much is a place over there? well im assuming it would be much much cheaper, also considering that AFAIK, the pound is worth alot more than canadian. the air is cleaner, the government is much less corrupt, judging from your name im assuming you use p2p...legal in canada :D i have a lot of relatives up in toronto which is a major city and they love it there. the people seem much friendlier and from what i hear, they take above average if not very good care of their roads, fields, forests, etc... health care is also free where in the US it can be half your salary if you buy a flat, 1 br, outside the city of toronto, maybe 10-15 minutes away in the suburbs i would hope it doesnt cost more than 80,000$ US which is probably around 95,000$ CDN (to own the house, not to rent)
xplatinum
Here (montreal, quebec, canada) I'm moving in a 4 1/2 on the 1st of July. 550$/month CND. Pretty big and nice. You can get a very big, nice and cheap place to live if you go away from the city a little bit. 5 1/2 (everything included) for 350$ CND. Very cheap place to live and the quality of life is amazing. Flats around this area cost about ?150,000! (CAD$368,000)! How did you get to the conclusion that I use P2P? My name is for my website - I use it everywhere. I hope you like snow:laugh:h: In all honesty, you get what you pay for. I've been to parts of England that were quite nice, and parts of America, but they've never been cheap. Especially now, house prices are skyrocketing, some around here have doubled in the last 3 years.
mthibadeau
Canada is, indeed, a lovely place. You did mention taxes, however, and Canada has around 15% tax between the VAT and the GST. I think it comes down to you pay for what you get. The more popular a place, due to weather or lifestyle, you'll more you'll pay.
Max Veteran Posted June 27, 2004 Author Veteran Share Posted June 27, 2004 I love snow......and if I want sun, then i'm sure I can go to Spain with the amount of money saved from not getting a flat in the UK :) As for the 15% tax....as long as you get clean streets, decent healthcare and stuff like that then i'm not bothered. Its only when you get charged 17.5% and nothing gets done with it is what hacks me off.
black.ops
Canada is the way to go. Vancouver is always a great choice, except it will be really crowded around 2010(olympics biotch!). Lived there for 11 years, now I live in the states, and I like Canada MUCH better! And in Vancouver the computer jobs are great...there are sooo many pc stores around, and the pay seems to be great. Apparently though, Healthcare will be lost due to the olympics (it will be back, dont worry) and tax is 7.5% on basic goods and 14.5% (i belive) on more expensive things, though they are supposed to take off 7%...or were for like 10 years.. lol. Matt
come to houston, tx. we have the best medical center, the most restaurants (best food), great schools, and eveything is cheap in houston. not to forget that navigation is very easy and traffic is better than chicago and new york. the summer weather could be better. oh yeah, sales tax is 8.25%. depending where you are staying you can pay anywhere from 800 for a nice 1-2 bedroom to 1400 for a luxury 1 bedroom apt. Max Veteran Posted June 27, 2004 Author Veteran Share Posted June 27, 2004 Great suggestions guys! Keep em comin' in! Job-wise: If I was to take full advantage if I get my computer engineering degree - how much would I earn? If I was a freelance computer engineer (go round people's houses and fix, etc), how much would I earn from this?
aem4162
you could try ohio. it's nice here in dayton. the best places are east and south...stay away from north and west dayton imo.
Soviet
Not really the sticks.. but.. well halfway there.. Can get a nice place for about 700-800 a month. (averages about a 1 paycheck) Cities are nice... but there is so much more to do here that you couldnt get away with in a city. The downside is nothing is 24 hours. GG-
Hmmm, Don't you need some kind of permit(visa) in order to move into U.S and work there? I'm still thinking about living there in order to study but without a license to work while I'm studying it is kinda useless.
oVerboosT
Canada is a great place. Toronto is a perfect city for what you want, but it could be a bit *to busy* and the living prices are a bit pricey in *some* areas. I live in the Missasuga/Brampton area (Which is basically called Toronto to me, very close), which I think would be a *perfect* place for what you said. Its a very modern, new city. No old old buildings, falling apart roads, and a hustling techlife there. Plus, the residential construction is going in unbelieveable pace, so there is no need to worry for a small home/apartment/condominium selection, there is many many many many many to choose from, and new ones coming up daily. The healthcare, is amazing! My Brother needed a catscan and got it only 3 days after request, which is very very good concidering we didn't pay a cent out of pocket, our taxes cover it, which is why I don't mind em' (even tho I sometimes don't pay taxes becuase I am 57% Canadian Native, I have an exception, but I actually *choose* to pay, as I am greatful for what I get back.) The life, perfect, the climates, perfect. It is very warm here during the summer (in Southern Ontario anyway) There is many things to do, too. If you go to the Toronto/GTA Area the worlds largest/ freshwater beach is only about 1-1/2 2 Hours away (concidering how fast you drive :p) Plus the countless amusement parks like wonderland, center-island, Wild Water Kingdom, etc. etc. Lots of things to do, and see in the summer! and in the winter it may be very cold at times, but there is so much to do as well! - If you really want to take advantage of Canadian Winters, head to Montr?al for a week or two and hit the slopes on many many, great hills - With actual *REAL* Chalet's' which is a very neat, unique experience these days. All in all, I would reccomend Canada, even though I have history and Reside here, It may be a bit biased, but I think it is a good choice. However, it is your move, so choose what makes you the most happiest! Best of luck in school, and your venture to a new country! - Nathan.
Raum
I live in a town called North Canton, Ohio. It's a lot like what you describe. Not terribly flat, but no big hills or anything really. Good population, not overcrowded or anything, but you still have plenty of people to talk to and stuff. You can get an apartment like you described for between 400 and 600$ quite easily here. bayrider
I have heard that Canada is good. How much is a place over there? rent and cost of living in montreal is dirt cheap. Personally i'd go to Canada b4 the USA it's an easier transition and if u cant find anything in Canada you'd be well adjusted to move south to the US
