The remote desktop client in XP is pretty weak anyways, it still cost money to run Terminal Service which will cost you some serious dough.

who cares...

Why not strive towards the best operating system ?

Whats the point in reinventing the wheel.... Noone is saying that remote desktop is original to either Mac or Microsoft.

Why do we all try and get mac / aqua / osx skins for windows ?

We want the best of both worlds.

I'm a Microsoft guy.... but love Mac too!

:right:

Oh come on;

Haven't any of you ever heard of PCAnywhere? And, I'm not even sure they came out with it first:

MS copied PCAnywhere, a couple dot .coms capitalized on the idea, MS jumped on the bandwagon with integration and now Apple decides to offer a *SERVICE* to it's users; it's just that Apple is playing it safe without the DOJ by offering an ADDITIONAL boxed product; whereas MS tries to get the biggest user bases by integration; it's just their individual business model.

MS's is simply a library that any C(++/#) app can call. Apple's is most likely an application; it's the same amount of programming skill involved, and, they were probably working on it before the release of WinXP...

Now, don't get me wrong; I'm no Apple fan; neither to MS; but, when it's the nature of good, competitive competition; well, how are you supposed to come out with it if all anyone does is yell "X copied Y!!!" Is Pepsi a rip off of Coke, is Windows a rip off of Apple's GUI? (well, yeah, the DOJ ruled so, but let's not go there), is BeOS a ripoff of OS 8/9? Nobody complains about those! But, when something as simple as this comes out, everyone is all up in arms about it.

Give it up.

(Although, just to enter the flame war and COMPLETELY contradict myself (although I don't want to...) I think Apple came out with theirs first, MS did some peeping, and did a simple two-week ripoff of it. Ah well, we'll see who started first...)

AND: Nothing's patented on the technology... MS doesn't own a patent, or the name wasn't infringed upon; there wouldn't be a valid case; as it's just good hearted competition between the two; besides, what does MS care, it's not going to drag over Windoze users...

Apple ceasrd to be an innovative company a long time ago...

what have they contributed to the world in the last 5 years which was seriously innovative?

Thats right nothing. They just get stuff from everyone else, make it transparent and stick it into their machines

LMAO... neither Apple or Necro$oft have really truely 'innovated' recently. N$ did help with ClearType fonts [which are really useful], but hardly the most original thing in the world [not the technology, I mean it's just tweaking the existing fonts]. Apple introduced the Dock which is useful, but hardly the most exciting development ever. Neither have introduced a '3D' OS which is the logical step which such powerful graphics cards on some machines... most people won't want it but it should at least be an option like ClearType font.

The next versions of Windows also don't look particularly exciting... the only REALLY interesting new technology is Apple's hardware [always looks amazing] and Necro$oft's new Mira technology.

??

wtf is "weak" about the RDP client in XP? AFAICT, it's actually better than the older RDP clients. If you mean the fact that the server doesn't support multiple concurrent logins, duh. It's called market segmentation. You want a terminal server, you buy a server OS. XP is a client OS, the fact that it includes an RDP server at all is good.

Ugh. Until we have three-dimensional display devices, a 3d interface makes no sense whatsoever.

The next versions of Windows also don't look particularly exciting...
i don't know, a SQL-based filesystem and all the capabilities that brings is pretty exciting. And the next revision of Windows isn't really /supposed/ to be all that exciting... from what i've read, it's basically going to be XP's equivalent to 98se... The version after is where things get /really/ cool (although i can see Blackcomb becoming this decade's Cairo...).
the only REALLY interesting new technology is Apple's hardware [always looks amazing] and Necro$oft's new Mira technology.

What about .NET? If you don't think /that's/ interesting, then you really don't know enough about it...
