trikster
My family is currently in the process of getting a new house built, and the electrician needs to know how many phone jacks and ethernet jacks we want in each room. When we told him we wanted both a phone jack and an ethernet jack in the bedrooms in the house, he insisted that the ethernet jack can be split, allowing a phone and a computer to be plugged into the same outlet. He said the phone and ethernet run on different frequencies, allowing both to work at the same time. Has anyone heard of this happening before, and would it work? We don't have a problem getting separate phone and ethernet jacks in the rooms, but if we can save money by splitting the ethernet jack, it makes more sense to do that. I'm just not sure if it works or not, and if the electrician knows what he's talking about. Thanks.
OPaul
Sure it's possible as long as there are enough wires, phones only use 2 per line.
bakerster
Yes you can. But do 2 cat-5e cables in each room ;)
xplatinum
2 jacks per 'plate' sure... but using the same jack for both ? I don't think its possible. If he says so... then I suppose he knows what he's talking about. One is RJ11 and the other one is RJ45. Not even the same size... nor the same amount of 'wires'.
