DirtyLarry Veteran Posted June 27, 2004 Veteran Share Posted June 27, 2004 All I have to say is, what took me so long to finally try Firefox????? One very happy new user here, that is for sure. :D The majority of my computer production is done on my Mac, therefore I use Safari, and it is really nice to get a similar experience on my Windows Comp. I have already noticed however there is the one tiny little bug just like in Safari... when using a Smilie in a post and clicking on one, it just puts it in the end of the text instead of the point of insertion. Since I am used to Safari dong the same thing I can live with it no problem at all. I really am not smilie crazy anyway. I truly feel like an idiot for waiting this long, and if anyone else out there is still using IE, trust me, Switch. Now to the veteran Firefox Users, any tips or the like you feel like sharing with a new Firefox user?

bangbang023 Veteran Posted June 27, 2004 Veteran Share Posted June 27, 2004 My one piece of advise is to not install an extension because it seems cool. I've seen people with 20+ extensions installed and it's just insane and then trying to troubleshoot an issue is even worse. Install only what you really need and nothing more. seifer_seph
install only necessary extensions (as mentioned above) and make sure the extensions work with the version you curently have.
DirtyLarry Veteran Posted June 27, 2004 Author Veteran Share Posted June 27, 2004 thanks all for the advice! so far all i have installed is flash player 7, and that went smooth as can be. i dont do much surfing on my windows comp, so i assume i will keep my extensions to a minimal amount. and will definitely keep my eye out for .9.1. canty wait actually... aahhhhh to be free from the grasp of IE, it feels so damn good. imtoomuch
Install the Adblock extension. I tried it for the first time after downloading the 0.9 build, and I have to say it's awesome. It blocks banner ads, flash ads, and more. I switched to Firefox, then known as Phoenix, at version 0.7 and haven't looked back since. My favorite part of Firefox is the ability to open a link in a new tab and the ability to close tabs using a middle click.

traxx
Quick question (rather use this thread than start another). Is there any way to disguise firefox as IE (as far as the web page is concerned)? 99% of the sites I use regularly always give me the "you need to be using Internet Explorer" messages, thus I dumped firefox and went back to IE instead of switching back and forth all the time. Also, there are a few sites that copy contents to the clipboard on click, but they don't do that in firefox. Is that a security feature...and can I turn it off? Nathan
What does this tweak really do? I just wanted to know before applying it to my copy. :) It enables pipelining. It's when it makes more than 1 connection to the sever, and then combining it. Download Accelerator Plus uses this. I (well, I have DSL) don't notice a change on pages, it's apparently better for dial up, and I definately notice it on large downloads. I usually get 105KB/sec, and with FF and pipelining I get 270KB/sec! :D That's.. 2160kbps. There's a way to do it in about:config, that I think I'd personally rather use over the Javascript hack... will look for it and post it.
