A pretty Annoying thing...

Recommended Posts

I know i have made them in the past, and I know I will make them in the future, but they are now getting out of hand.

Sure, they are a great +1, but these 1K, 2K, 3K, 4K (etc.) are getting out hand.

I count 10 on the first page at least.

Can we make a sticky thread where someone posts their name, and we all put the congrats there 1nc lol. I mean, we gotta do something about this.

I am getting tired of these threads that complain about them. If you don't like them, don't read them. Simple.

Indeed.

Radish?

Well this has been discussed before and many agree and feel the same way. However, all we can do since they are allowed is to just ignore them. If they clearly mark them as a milestone thread, just don't bother going in and reading them. They used to post count lock them so they post ###### stayed out and that was a help. Maybe if it's such an issue again than maybe they'll consider reinstating it.

It would be nice to have a special forum, called "Hospitality" as an exmple, where congradulations for birthdays, milestones, welcoming new members could all go. I've seen it on another forum and it does seem to work and help keep the place organized and looking better. It would be a good idea since we do allow these thread types here. If they all went in a forum made for them, than perhaps it'd help satisify the members easily annoyed by them.

I have nothing against them, and I stay out of areas that bother me. It's not hard. Something bothers me I just click the back button and go else where. Only other idea for this matter that seems to work.

We'll just have to see what the staff thinks once again and wait till IPB 2 for any new additions (such as 'ignore' which is eagerly being waited for) that could be added onto Neowin.

That was a good post Ryan. Good post.

 I have my moments. :p I'm actually a nice guy once you get to know me. :) But unfortunately some people seem to disagree. Oh well, you can only please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time. :turned:

ppl who contribute to the cummunity deserve's these exclusives congrats ;)

Sure, people who contribute to the community deserve congratulations, but if you have something you want to say to someone, and you really mean it, you can send them a PM, or an email. Not because we don't all like to see what you have to say, but because it means more to the person than just "postcount++" when you do it that way.

The only reason we should really be keeping these threads is for the people themselves. If they seriously just want to post about their x000 because they feel good about it or want congrats, that's nothing more than spam. Some people, though, actually have things they want to say in these posts - to bring attention to people who have helped them and the community and maybe get something off their chest. For this reason I have to agree with timdorr in that we should raise it to something like 5000, that way we can avoid people spamming General Discussion and they can still have their five minutes of fame every now and then.

Let's set the bar to x0000 :p

I think it should be around 5000 or higher, cause anything after that means that you have been here for awhile, or you are a spammer.

[OFF TOPIC] It took me like 3 days to figure out who you were in the Neowin America's Army Clan!

we'll consider adding a Neowin Milestones sub-forum ok?

but lets not go around denying members the right to be proud of their contribution to Neowin :)

I have renewed faith and respect in you. You're not such a bad guy after all. Smart minds think alike. That's all it is, appreciation for contributions to a community. For this, you win teh prize. A dancing Britney in lingerie.

If post count is something people get upset about, particularly the moderators, admins and others running the site, maybe the site would consider disabling the post count feature on the forums? I think they have done this on other sites like Hard OCP and it works ok.

I know that I post a lot but I don't do it for post count, I do it because I pretty much post here and nowhere else lately. Neowin is a friendlier place than most, so I like to come here. But if people are going to get angry about post count, maybe turning off the post count feature would not be such a bad thing? After all, we could avoid the whole problem that way, right?

Just my 2 cents. :)

Get used to it, as Neowin gains more and more members, we're gonna see more and more of these thread.

I think some consideration of raising the bar on milestones is a good idea. Seems like 1000 posts isn't quite as elite as it used to be a few years ago.

yes but are argument it that their is so many of them and you can avoid them, but now the general forum is looking silly with all the x000 threads is their not somewhere more appropriate for them to go. Anyway some people use them as a way of upping their post counts. Could we not consider post locking any x000 threads to see if people post because they want to well wish or because they want to up their post counts?
