Jobs in the Baltimore, MD area

Is there a such thing as a decent job for well...a computer geek such as myself in the Baltimore MD are? Next year I'll be going to the University of Maryland (Baltimore County) and I don't exactly want to get a job at McDonald's or something utterly useless like that, since I'm technically inclined I wanted to get a part-time job where I could actually be of use with my skills, anybody have any suggestions or am I just dreaming?

I mean, ya couldn't get a part-time job working in a computer repair shop or something like that? I'm sure there's gotta be something, everybody wants a computer dork these days.

No I mean, technologically orientated, yet part-time jobs. I know being a college student doesn't exactly scream experience, and not to brag, but I do know my ****, and by the time I leave high school I'll of nabbed my XP (or 2k3 server) MSCE and a couple other certs...I just don't wanna be working at a Burger King or retail or something like that if I have skills that can be used elsewhere.. :s

 I'm sure there are good Tech/computer jobs around Baltimore, trouble is they may all be filled. Search things like Monsterjobs.com ... and consider moving to other cities somewhat near Baltimore. DC or maybe Hagerstown -- it has CitiCorp credit card center. Always hiring there.

1. Work on your resume

2. I think UMBC has monsterTRAK, so once you go there, just check your career center and log on to monsterTRAK.

3. UMBC hosts a career fair sometime in October (if I recall correctly), so make sure to check that out.

4. Always think of the future not just now (so try to get an internship (credit/pay) to polish your CV)

If you find a good internship don't dismiss it because it's only for credit. If you do a good job they might hire you full time.

Also, don't narrow your choices in terms of working at a strictly IT company. A lot of financial companies in the inner harbor area have a large IT department. (T.Rowe Price, Legg Mason, Mercantile, etc.)

In summary, your best bet is to go to your career center and try to make use of all the available opportunities. (work on your interview skills)
