Fonze
Divx spyware installed software links on my desktop and Start menu. then made a folder called liveshows on my C drive. the spyware forced porn onto my computer, a minor i may add. isn't that illegal!:hurt: and Gator of all things! gator which would seem to be a friendly ad-ware program, installed by Divx 5 Pro, Put porn on my computer. Strong action should be taken to make sure this doesn't happen again!

Shikan.chi
Fonze: Pretty nice computer for being underage. ;) But for suing them over putting some links to porn on your computer... screw that man.. people are too sue happy nowadays. I mean hell they put time and money into making this great program, and then you turn around and sue them... I mean hell, I'm sure you run into porn on the internet just doing casual surfing. :D :ponder: :cheeky: I do agree that they should have told you that you were gonna have some porn spyware on your computer though, so that you could have chosen not to download if you didn't want too! don't know if they did or not... because I chose the freeware version. Anyway this was just my opinion... talk to ya later. :)
Fonze
i wouldn't sue Divx, i would sue Gator, they are the spyware company. i don't think i would really sue, just threaten them, maybe they would buy me off, haha
uurong
you can delete those folders containing the ad programs under "program filescommon" folder. I don't remember the folder names. However, you can find out by open each folder. In one folder, you will find gator, one other folder there is some that I can not recall right now. If the ad program is running, you have to go to the task manager to kill it. In xp, when you'r deleting the folder, xp will tell you the name of the running process. Now you have a divX pro with no ad-support.

amoeba
To whomever cares enough, go and find the EULA/Agreements/ToS for those pieces of software. I am sure they say it somewhere in there that whatever else is installed is okay and that you are agreeing to it. Just simply understanding how a company's mind works, I am sure they wrote something in there about that.
Tai
sounds like a good article for the front page of neowin... to warn users of ad supported divx5 .... hope one of the writers is payin attention to this ... :smart: yep i agree amoeba... there will probably be a ref in the eula/tos & disclaimer for this stuff... still ... needs to be outed for anyone not reading the fine print ....:smart:
Mike11212
It may say that in the EULA but you still can't download something on to someones computer with out them knwoing. especially porno onto a Minors computer. Its a federal crime to intraduce porn into a child under 18 life.

Krome
You people... using a software that has banner and ad infected trying to ask for a luxery stuff.... just doesn't sound smart at all... get the version that does not have the ad in there... a full version... :)
Fonze
Don't let this stop you from getting Divx. if you use Ad-aware it will remove the spyware completely and leave Divx completely functional. on ther other hand i have another warning if you are planing to do any work with Divx 3 videos, i would stay away from Divx 5 till they come out with some fixes for it. if you try to convert a Divx 3 avi it will not work with the Divx 5 codec

Tim Dorr Veteran Posted March 16, 2002 Veteran Share Posted March 16, 2002 :p you people get the crack for Divx 5 Pro, or just use regular Divx 5. The regular edition doesn't have the ad-ware, however lacks the advanced encoding features of the pro version. you choice (i say crack it ;) )
hurting101
Porn is everywhere these days. Deviantart had a porn ad at the top, linking to a porn site :s
mortensen
get the crack for Divx 5 Pro, or just use regular Divx 5. Apparently the cracked version has side affects... one of the cracks doesn't work properly and the other produces crappy quality avi's. The keygen works perfectly though. sunnyy4
Found out how to get the spyware off your @$$... you see, when they install, they have this "gain_trickler.exe" file to start up, and they put it in the registry. Whenever I install a program in my computer, I check the registry to see if they put anything into my computer. Here's the place where you can find it: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun Delete the "trickler" key out of the registry, and you're good to go with four extra MB's of resorces and a spyware-free computer! If you want to find a crack for the software, be my guest, but you'll be seeing porn, and that's not good for minors.
