olaf
I have a Sony Trinitron HMD-A200 monitor. Right now, I run 1024x768@85Hz, and everything is smooth and flicker-free. However, I find 1024x768 to be an intolerably small screen space, and my monitor is capable of going up to 1280x1024, but only at 60Hz. For me, 60Hz is somewhat trying, because my eyes can perceive the flicker. So.. what would you do? Deal with the visual inconvenience and take the superior screen size, or deal with smaller workspace that's easier on the eyes?
aem4162
you should use a resolution that doesn't bother your eyes. you don't wanna get headaches
matt74441
Do whats best for your eyes or buy a better monitor. I get a prety bad headache if I look at 60Hz for more than 5 minutes.
insanekiwi
use the smaller resolution instead if getting eyecancer...er a bad headache i mean.
olaf
lol thanks so far guys, keep 'em coming. Also, I'm really low on cash right now, so a new monitor is really out of the question :\
Favvi
i do 1280x768 @ 85 Hz, because of the 60Hz @ 1280x1024. ..screen is a bit larger than 1024x768, so i am settling with this till i get a new monitor.. :D settle for something better for your eyes, or [save up for] a better monitor
Makeshift Hammer
I have a crappy Nvidia mx400 32mb card and (thanks to updating my drivers) run my screen at 1152x864 @ 100hz (my monitor is a bog standard dell which came with my 4300...) Look into updating your drivers before anything else. S.
Hum
 Check your video card rezs -- maybe it can do higher refresh rates ? Or you'll just have to get a better monitor. Doesen't your monitor have buttons to adjust the screen, expand and fill it ? My MAG does. And the icon and font sizes are all adjustable.
Pink Floyd Veteran Posted June 30, 2004 Veteran Share Posted June 30, 2004 I would never get higher and 60Hz
kainashi
just stick with the smaller screen resolution until you can afford a better monitor or something. ;)
adam.sproul
I get a problem where if I look at certain text my eyes see lines, and when I turn away from monitor and look elsewhere I can still see the lines (kind of like guidelines), it takes at least 5 minutes for my eyes to get rid of these strange horizontal lines. Usually when I am reading text that is on a black background, it is always when I am reading text on a black background actually.

Zimbo
Agh, 60hz! Curses! Me hates! I'd rather have low res and good Refresh Rate rather than high res and temporary eye mutilation.
theyarecomingforyou
60Hz is *really* bad for your eyes (even if you can't see it it is bad, and you can easily notice it flicker in your peripheral vision)... even 75Hz is not recommended for long periods (hour or more). I personally use 1152x768x85Hz at the moment because I found 1280x960x85Hz was too small and I had to strain my eyes slightly on my failing 19" monitor. 1280x1024 is only recommended for TFT's... it stretches the picture on CRT's and looks quite crap in general (if you have any picture on its side and you tilt your head you will see that the proportions are all messed up). 1280x960 is the best for CRT's. TwiztedCam
What's the max refresh rate for 1152 on your monitor? Try that res at 75hz if possible. Btw, I'm using 1280x1024@75hz.
olaf
My eyes are extremely sensitive to refresh rates, even 75Hz bothers me a little bit. I guess I'm stuck until I can come by some cash :pinch: Thanks for all the replies guys.
