metalguy90
Hello Everyone, I have just moved into an apartment where there was 2 lines and 2 phone jacks; 1 line for each jack. I contacted my phone company, and they hooked me up with a new phone number. Since there was 2 separate lines previously only 1 phone jack works for the new number. I want to switch the second phone jack to be on the same line as the other jack (which has the phone number to it). I have contacted my phone company, and they want to charge $120 to do this. I have done some research and the lady at the phone company said it was fairly easy to do. Is this something that is relatively easy to do? Thanks, metalguy
dougkinzinger
Sure. In your case, the easiest way would be to call a buddy or acquaintance who knows about phone wiring.
metalguy90
is there a way i could do this. Many websites have said that this is something that is fairly easy to do. At the moment, i cant think of anyone that i know of that is familiar with phone lines.
aem4162
i swapped 2 phone #s by moving the wires from one lead to another in the junction box it's a pain in the ass if you don't know what you're doing. have the phone co come out and do it for you...they'll spread the cost out over several phone bills. Hum
:) It's very easy -- find the junction phone box. Take off the cover, switch over the 2 lines to one, match up the same color wires (for the active line) to the same connecting screws and tighten them. john smith 1924 Veteran Posted June 30, 2004 Veteran Share Posted June 30, 2004 I've done this before- its not v hard. Even if you cant find a doc on the interweb, basically all you need to do is wire the socket into the other socket- trial + error works... there are only 5 wires...! Soviet
If you have access to the phone box at the building...or can open it wihtouth too much damage. find the two lines you have... and disconnect the 2nd one and put it on the same as the first one. and they will both be on the same number. it's as simple as loosening and tightening screws. Granted doing this at a house is alot easier than at an apartment building. Best of luck.
