Maudy
I'm looking into a buying my own laptop. I've been looking at a Dell, but I don't know if I should get a Pentium M or a Pentium 4. Which one is better performance wise? I would be using my laptop mostly for school and music.
jymi
welcome to the neowin community :D pentium 4 is better performance wise but pentium M is more batery efficent and if your only going to be using it for school and music i reckon you should go with pentium M

DoNuTs
YaY welcome to Neowin ! Where stuff is learned and noobs arn't burned ( Sorry blaise :p ) Depends, are you a gamer or what ? Because the P4 is for demanding tasks, and the Pentium M is power saving, it's a special laptop processor

Maudy
If I would get a 1.5GHz Pentium M, would that be good? I would only be able to afford up to a 1.6GHz.
DoNuTs
It's great. If you listen to music, write, surf the internet and all those tasks. Then it's the perfect processor for the job

Maudy
Awesome! Thanks for helping me out! I just need to get the money for the laptop and I'll be all set! Another quick question... What exactly is the difference between these wireless networking cards? Dell? Wireless 1350 Internal Wireless (802.11b/g, 54Mbps) Intel? PRO/Wireless 2200 Internal Wireless (802.11 b/g, 54Mbps) Dell? Wireless 1450 Internal Wireless (802.11a/b/g, 54Mbps)

OPaul
PMs run faster then P4 and have more cache, why are you guys saying P4s give better performance? If your getting a laptop you want to make sure it has a Mobile Pentium or Centrino processor in it, not P4 and not P4-M.
incubusdaemon
Dell? Wireless 1350 Internal Wireless (802.11b/g, 54Mbps) Intel? PRO/Wireless 2200 Internal Wireless (802.11 b/g, 54Mbps) Dell? Wireless 1450 Internal Wireless (802.11a/b/g, 54Mbps) 1 and 2 are the same, but #2 is required for your computer to be a 'centrino' #3 supports the rarely-used 802.11a standard along with the much more popular b and g. mihir
go with the pentium m because you'l get good battery life out of it, and i assume is quite light and thin.
