+Warwagon MVC Posted July 2, 2004 MVC Share Posted July 2, 2004 can't you put a drive in their just to install 98? Then take it back out. Or pull the hard drive out of the computer... put it in yours... format and put the 98 cab files on the drive in a directory like win98 ...then put it back in the computer nad boot from a 98 floppy and go to the win98 directory on C and don't forget to run smartdrv before the install, installs faster that way.. then do a setup /is /ie

Bearded Kirklander
Boot off a dos floppy and copy the cabs over useing a parallel laplink or something (hope your not in a rush) That is a great idea. I can't believe I did not think of it. Well done. (Y) You could do the same with later versions of Norton Commander for DOS, I believe.

FiREFLi
the only filetransfer methods i have are floppy and ethernet. ethernet? Network the two pcs and transfer an image of a 98 disk. Or get an ethernet modem and upload it from one pc, then download it on the laptop.
Bearded Kirklander
the only filetransfer methods i have are floppy and ethernet. You don't have a serial port or parallel port on the machine? Programs like Lap Link work great over those lines. Here is an idea. Use WinRAR to archive the Win 98 CABS into segments that are 1.4meg each in size and copy them over one floppy at a time from your machine to the laptop and decompress them there. DevilsJim89
Original Windows 95 floppys had 13 disks, Windows 3.1 has 6 and Windows for Workgroups 3.1 has 7 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11 has 10. I think Windows 98 would have like 72 CDs. Isn't this on the wrong board?
