speaking mandarin isn't too hard. for most non-natives, tones tend to be the most difficult part. as for writing, it just takes practice. even people who know chinese have some trouble writing characters that they don't use very often. and the grammar is surprisingly flexible.

cantonese tones are more difficult. there are 8-9 tones, much more than in mandarin. even my mandarin-speaking friends have trouble speaking cantonese.

good luck!

Mandarin, especially if you're into business. China will definitely become the ub3r 1337 super-duper-mega power in the future, but I doubt that it will happen in our lifetime (perhaps when we retire).

Could you provide a link for the "teh leetness" website? I wanna check it out too :D.

I think Portuguese does sound quite nice :D I can understand a lot of it because I know Spanish and some French but I wish I was fluent. It sounds so nice!
