Matt T
Well, I suppose the title says it all... :| but yes, Neowin is giving me spyware and adware. Everytime I visit the index page with all the main news, IE kinda freezes for a few moments as if it's downloading something in the background. After I close the neowin window, I scan my PC with ad-aware and it comes up with about 15 new objects. After those are removed, I can go on any other website I normally go to for... ever. I then scan with ad-aware again and no new objects. I then visit neowin again, scan, 15 new objects. These are the objects that come up: - CoolWebSearch process (high risk) - Possible browser hijack attempt (medium risk) - CoolWebSearch regkey (low risk) So yeah, neowin is giving me spyware and adware. And I've got all the updates for windows and the windows firewall enabled. I really don't want to use anything else but IE, excepially firefox - I can't stand that browser. Does anyone have any suggestions? And mods; could you look into this please?
john smith 1924 Veteran Posted July 4, 2004 Veteran Share Posted July 4, 2004 I can honestly say that Neowin does NOT give any of its members spyware. If it happens again, save the html code and send it to redmak. Have a browse through these threads: - https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...9695&hl=spyware - https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...5993&hl=spyware - https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...3286&hl=spyware Again -we dont do spyware at neowin. It is a malicious advertiser, or another piece of spyware already on your computer.

sinatosk
he's telling the truth.... well it's not neowin it self but it's spyware/adware from the adverts that neowin are showing us. I just tried it twice and twice I scanned and clean my machine and both time it came from neowin adverts

Japlabot
Who's to know if Neowin is giving IE users spyware when IE is now the minority, and there isn't many other people that would be able to vouch for it.

null_
All Internet Explorer users do yourselves a favor, and install a program called SpywareBlaster. It prevents most spyware from being able to be installed. http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
Matt T
he's telling the truth.... well it's not neowin it self but it's spyware/adware from the adverts that neowin are showing us. I just tried it twice and twice I scanned and clean my machine and both time it came from neowin adverts maybe neowin should invest in advertisements that don't give us spyware and adware? bangbang023 Veteran Posted July 5, 2004 Veteran Share Posted July 5, 2004 good freaking god. 1) There is to be no more complaining about ads. Neobond has made this clear. 2) The only "spyware" you may get is a cookie from the advertisement company, nothing else. Anything else you get is something else on your system. thread closed
