Should one be ashamed to read comics?

There's nothing wrong with reading comics.

I'm 18 years old and I still read them.

(not planning to stop in the near future ;))

I am 18 in three weeks, and if I read comics and told my mates, I'd never heard the end of it. Same if they said the same to me. I think they're for children to be honest.

For children? Hardly, it's just you're at an age where you're incredibly self consious about what might and might not be cool, your desire to fit in is far greater then what you might possibly enjoy regardless of "coolness".

On a side note I've not read comics since I was like 9 but I'd love to grab hold of a few, have no idea where I'd grab them from though.

Dazzla, am I not entitled to an opinion? Now I realise why most threads are orientated towards one opinion, because if anyone says something different (like I did), there is normally attacks of opinion (not you necasarily, just seen it in a few threads). Oh well...

I read comics for this reason:

OK I like a film, story, character, whatever. I want more. I don't want cruddy half-baked fan-fic, so that rules out a lot of "books", whereas comics hav mature, interwoven, intelligent plots.

I have a lot of commics, many collectables, and no I am not ashamed of them. A few people have seen them and laughed, and then ended up borrowing them becuase they are also into similar stories.

Thanks for your replies... but this was less about me (well, in a way it was) and if I should be ashamed of my hobby, but ... if you are 18+, would you really tell your friends how you love to read comics? Or, would you like to have your girlfriend tell your buddies how you like to read comics?

One guy here was quite frank and said he wouldn't, and I agree, unless you are always with a circle of like-minded, you'd rather rather nobody brought up the subject... riiiiiight? :-)

Not entitled to an opinion? Didn't know where I said that but hey ho  I was making a generalization of that age group. I felt the same way and would have said the exact same words you did a few years back. You just change is all I'm saying.

I wouldn't care what other people think being 21 (22 in a few months) myself. I mean I play video games at my age and many people think it's still a toy for the teens but then I tell them that I am in the industry of creating them and they shut up. I wouldn't worry about it man, enjoy it for as long as you want. :)

most of the people i've hung around with over the years read a lot of different titles every month. they don't care who knows that they read them. read what you want and enjoy them.
