Minneapolis, Minnesota Tommorrow!

Recommended Posts

I'm flying out to Minneapolis tomorrow from here in California to spend a few days doing some training for work. I've been trying to check out Minneapolis on the net to see what interesting things I might be able to check out in my spare time. So far all I've come across is the Mall of America. Can anyone else reccomend interesting/fun things to do while I'm there? I't also going to be my first time flying so I'm really excited (yes I'm 22 and this is my first time on a plane, very pathetic) Anyways, come up w\ some fun stuff for me everybody! :D

The MoA is cool, but a little overrated. If you're into baseball, you could check out a Twins game. The Quest Club and First Ave. are two decent venues for concerts. If you're into metal, Dead Poetic and Demon Hunter are at the Quest tomorrow night for $12 at the door. Maybe post a few things you're into so people could suggest related things.

There are a few decent downtown clubs if you're into those things.

The cherry and spoon scuplture is pretty famous. It's near the intersection of Lyndale and Hennepin just south of downtown. Right next to it (if they haven't closed it for reconstruction) is the Gutherie Theater, which has some great live drama just about every night (it's world famous).

If you want to see or be seen go to Lake Harriet or Calhoun in Mpls, or Como Park in St Paul. It's pretty nice just to hang out at any of the three places. (Lots of Bikinis). As you loop when landing you'll fly right over the lakes- so look for them.

Best Ice Cream is at Sebastian Joes (multiple locations), if you like thai, try Sawatdee (best pad thai I've ever found). Famous Dave's has decent ribs- better than most but not spectacular. Best coffee drinks at Pandora's Box, at about 26th and Hennepin. Eat Street is Nicolett, which has something like 100 restaurants in 5 blocks.

If you like Swank and Chic check out Uptown, which is centered at Lake and Hennepin in Southwest Minneapolis. For the college/indie atmosphere, check out Dinkytown near the U of MN. It's on the East Bank side.

Down by the river just north of downtown is kinda fun to hang out at. They have the old cobblestones still there. There is also Lock and Dam #1 a little further down stream. If you like those sorts of touristy places, check out Fort Sumter (Sumpter? I dunno) on the river. They do reinactments every day, I think.

If you get bored, you can always go to the Science Museum in St. Paul- it's mostly for kids, but I always have a good time there. Twins tickets are also insanely cheap, so it's fun to go.

MoA is just a really big shopping mall. There is nothing too exciting about it, except watching the Japanese tourists.
