Elliot B.
My mate thinks her hamster could be dying, he stopped using his back legs earlier. What does that normally mean?

null_
Their best bet is to take the hamster to the nearest vet for help.
CDog
hamsters don't last long anyway, though obviously, as has been said, the vet is your best port of call........

http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:T-0p45E...l=en&lr=lang_en Clogged Intestines- Hamsters have very thin organs which can easily be clogged. If this happens the hamster's back legs with be paralized and he or she will have a hard time digesting food. You should supply apple juice, water, sliced apples, and apple source. A hamster can usually only live up to three weeks after the first symptoms appear. http://www.petshub.com/forums/showthread.p...astpost&t=13450Maybe he has arthritis or a spinal disorder? I txt her what could be wrong (from the above) and to give it apple juice. I didn't have to heart to tell her they usually only live up to three weeks after the first symptoms appear :s

Guest Ryan
Yes, trust me. I've been through 3 guinea pigs and know what's it's like to go through bad times with them as they're passing away. You (or her) must take it to a vet as soon as possible. Do it for the hamster.

Guest Ryan
I told her that if the situation doesn't improve within 3 days, to take it to the vet. Aight. Good enough, I guess, maybe. Personally, myself with my past little pet experiences and their typical health situations, I'd give it to the end of the day once I see them not like they used to be. Than by the next day we make the trip to the vet. Good luck and keep us informed of the little guy's progress.

Verbose.
A hamster can usually only live up to three weeks after the first symptoms appear. How long has the hamster been showing these symptoms... a couple of days? It sounds like there's not much you can do but it may be something else so you should still take him/her to the vet. At least with a short-lived animal it's not quite as sad when the pet dies. Maybe the next pet your friend chooses is a cat or dog... an animal that lives longer than a hamster. T-Grey
I had a hamster once that had pretty bad arthritis; throughout its life it's mobility decreased gradually until it couldn't move it's back legs very well. I built it a wheelchair out of legos. it worked too. I was like 8, ok?
