Pyro
Well what i was wondering is, if i wanted to sell a drawing or painting with the logo of a big company on it like Jordan or Microsoft, I know i cant just sell it because they woul dbe able to sure me for making money of them. What i was thinking, woul di be able to make shipping $50 and give the product away for free? is that legal and can this get me in any trouble? Thanks, Mario
bangbang023 Veteran Posted July 5, 2004 Veteran Share Posted July 5, 2004 unless you spend $50 on shipping, yes it would be illegal still.
Guest bartekpl
you have to somehow get thier permission. but that might cost you more then you would make from it
Fred Derf Veteran Posted July 5, 2004 Veteran Share Posted July 5, 2004 unless you spend $50 on shipping, yes it would be illegal still. Why would selling an artistic rendering of a corporate logo be illegal? How is this different than Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup cans?
.will
you have to somehow get thier permission. but that might cost you more then you would make from it yeah if i understand correctly, youd probably have to pay the companies royalties for each product you sell. what about making a knock off logo like Macrosoft or McRonalds. darksoul
it is legal if it is considered parody(sp?)
insurektion
ya you can be coverd under a parody. but do you actually know what ur talking about bangbang or just what you believe. Im pretty sure that you can incorperate a logo into a piece of work. Like those paintings featured on Supersize Me movie. They were all based off McDonalds. bangbang023 Veteran Posted July 5, 2004 Veteran Share Posted July 5, 2004 it is legal if it is considered parody(sp?) very correct but also a very fine line between parody and not.
Pyro
Ok say i wanted to make a print of a picture of a Jordan show i made, if i took all the jordan and nike logos of of it would i be able to make prints of it? or is there some other way this cna be done without having to pay royalties? Or what if i included a small print of something else and said your paying $50 for the small print and the big print is for free, would that be legal? Thanks for all the responses, Mario

Thanks for all the responses, Mario you should remove any logos from you stuff...it's like the baseball cards out of the cereal boxes...all my reds have the uniform but no wishbone c, no cincinnati, and no little reds guy. you really should talk to a copyright lawyer
rvbfan
Why would selling an artistic rendering of a corporate logo be illegal? How is this different than Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup cans? Copyright Andy Worhol paid for it. Also you would have to prove to a judges satisfaction that it is a parody. Then you would still have the problems of defending your parody as not being harmfull to the copyright holder.
Pyro
Anyone know where i can contact a copyright lawyer? is there somewher eonline i can do it? and will this cost money? BTallack
How is this different than Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup cans? At that point there was no copyright on the Campbell's Soup Can design. The company didn't think anyone would want to copy it.
