El_Cu_Guy
There should be a permanent thread explaining to posters what they should do about spyware and such. What it is what it does and some example. Do we really need 50 posts on page one to tell people it's not a "hacker" and to run ad-aware? The same holds true for viruses. It would certainly lessen the number of posts with people asking "how do I get rid of this virus?" Simple answer -- Run AV software or download the removal tool moron! Marshalus Veteran Posted July 7, 2004 Veteran Share Posted July 7, 2004 The polite thing to do is to direct them to thread that already has dealt with this issue, they get their problem solved, and you get +1 to the old post count ;)
Chode
There should be a permanent thread explaining to posters what they should do about spyware and such. What it is what it does and some example. Do we really need 50 posts on page one to tell people it's not a "hacker" and to run ad-aware?Ad-aware is not the end-all solution for spyware. Just last week I contracted a rather virulent example which I had to dig out of the registry. Ad-aware can't do that, so it is good for their to be individual posts. The same holds true for viruses. It would certainly lessen the number of posts with people asking "how do I get rid of this virus?" Same as above. Norton was as good as useless when MSBlaster spread. Simple answer -- Run AV software or download the removal tool moron! This forum is a place where members can assist others in a positive manner, calling them a moron is ****ING LAME!To summarise, it is no good referring a recent post to a 3 year old thread that has very little relevance to the modern situation. People want help, then give them help and stop been a moron. Enough already... "Enough" this
El_Cu_Guy
Ad-aware is not the end-all solution for spyware.Never said that it was. I'm certainly not going to list every single utility known to man.Same as above. Norton was as good as useless when MSBlaster spread. How many people have the expertise to explain virus removal too the average user who obvious doesn't seem to know what the heck AV software is for? This forum is a place where members can assist others in a positive manner, calling them a moron is ****ING LAME!Seems rather mild compared to some other postings. To summarise, it is no good referring a recent post to a 3 year old thread that has very little relevance to the modern situation. People want help, then give them help and stop been a moron. Threads are updated constantly and usually point to guides written by member or other such articles. Obviously these would likely be updated in those 3 years. Then again there are a number of people out there all over the net that are too lazy to bother checking the date on most articles.
