hurting101
I'd have to say MultiDesk http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-14619...lst-7-1.3293012 Or that nView manager I think.
BroChaos Veteran Posted March 19, 2002 Veteran Share Posted March 19, 2002 i went to download.com and tried about 5 of the highest rated/most downloaded vdms, and i didn't like any of them. but there are a bunch there, if you want to try them for youself. dotbatman
I use the VDM that comes with Powertoys, and I don't have any problems with it, although it takes a few seconds to change my wallpaper. Also, disable "animations" unless you have a pretty powerful box. The nview VDM I also found to be a pain in the ass, like you couldn't have a different wallpaper for each dtop, whereas with MSVDM you can. Quboid
I use MultiDesk, which is a very small, fast program without unnecessary stuff like different wallpapers for different desktops. nView might be good if you have an nVidia graphics card - I tried it but never got the hang of it. Contrary to what dotbatman says, you can have different wallpapers for each desktop. I think.
dotbatman
you got me there xain, i was thinking of another one, i think it was called ezdesktop or something. yer right, nview may have support for different wallpapers, not that it would be important for everyone...nview tho, IS more complicated than it needs to be, IMO. Quboid
Yeah, I found nView a bit long winded - it's made for multiple monitors too, so they have to add more. I would have used it if they'd added better hotkey control. I'm hopelessly addicted to Ctrl+Leftarrow and Ctrl+Rightarrow from using X, Litestep and now Multidesk. nView doesn't allow usage of the arrow keys for hotkeys. Osiris
Yeah the one that comes with Powertoys seems to be reliable and sterdy
Krome
Does this version of Powertoys you guys talking about works with Win2K or just the XP version?
dotbatman
They are specifically labelled as 'XP Powertoys', although I could not predict what would happen if you tried to install them on 2K. There are powertoys for Win2K specifically as well, which I am sure do not have the MSVDM. I would check out others, like Multidesk and others that were mentioned above to see if they have a 2K version or 2K support. Time to Google!
