Visual Studio.net Launch

I doubt they gave you full VS.NET. XP Pro is easier to believe than that. FULL VS.NET is 2500 dollars (Architect Enterprise Edition is the FULL version). No way they gave you something worth that much for free.

They aren't giving out architect edition. Maybe you guys should read the website before saying "OH THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL THEY'RE GIVING OUT FULL COPIES!! OMG!!" ... it is true..

Next time... check your sources before telling me to look at them. Maybe the site is wrong... maybe they do give out full versions... but don't tell me to check the site when it doesn't agree with what you are saying.

I think you're reading the wrong page. You need to go here:

http://www.msdnaa.net/vslaunch/

Where is says, "All attendees will receive the full version of Visual Studio .NET Academic, a full version of Windows XP Professional, and other valuable items. Join us for an overview of the .NET Framework and a live demonstration of Visual Studio .NET."

What is Visual Studio .NET Academic?

http://www.msdnaa.net/technologies/vsnetacademic.asp

So there, Ice Blue, read it and weep. :right: Heh...

VS.NET Academic is the equivlent of Maya Learner's Edition. It's not a real full edition.

It's like saying... I have the full version of Photoshop when it's the try-it version.

I consider MS's main site more official than their academic site. It's not the wrong site. It's a different one. Anyone could have done the same thing I did.

Hey man give it up... It's NOT a TRIAL! It isn't limited, it isn't a demo, it isn't time-bombed. It's fully functional.

I dont know why you have a hair up your ass about this. Don't be mad because you couldn't go :dead:

I take back that it's a trial. That was wrong. It's the academic version. It's not the full version either. It's functional, yes. But it is limited to only the tools included within the Professional Edition... plus some special ones.

VSEA is still the completely full edition (minus the learning ones included in Academic).

It's not a trial... but it's far from full. It's limited to what VS.net Professional... so don't say it's not limited.

Well I don't even care because I already have Architect Edition (7 CD) ... so there. :dead:

The last two weren't included in the "warez" version. They are Verio .NET and VisualSource Cafe

just to let you all know, they are both the _full_ version of VS .Net and XP Pro. well at least the ones given out in NY.

Quote from the e-mail they sent out...

Remember, every event attendee will receive a full version of Visual

Studio .NET Academic, a full version of Windows XP Professional, plus a

chance to win* one of several great prizes which could include a Microsoft

XboxT, Microsoft Press? Books, $500 American Express Gift Certificates,

MP3 Players, and more.

and how much money do you think it actually cost's microsoft to _make_ VS .Net and Xp Pro, and put it in a sleeve and give it to us? It's not boxed or anything. It doesn't cost much.

Alright...I just was to the event in Detroit. This is what happens. You get there and you have to show a valid school or corporate id to get into the event. After you show them your id they hand you a bag of goodies. In this bag is a magazine, a pen, a t-shirt, a thing of mints, a FULL VERSION OF WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL, a FULL ACADEMIC VERSION OF VISUAL STUDIO.NET (Which is not limited, hindered, or time-bombed in anyway, I just wrote a web page with it....:) ), and a few other things. They had a band that played for about 45 mins. and then a rep from Microsoft came on and explained some things. Then another guy that isn't really from Microsoft (They just hired him for the tour) comes on and does a presentation. After that you fill out a form and hand that in and that's what they use to draw for prizes. The best prizes were the X-BOX of course, 5 $100 gift certificates, a Rio Mp3 player, and a camera. That's pretty much what happened. Plus they hand out these weird little things called spider balls....I've got 4 of them....:) Does that answer your question? PM me or something if you have more...:)

2pac,

After making a huge line. btw (I recomend you make it there early to avoid it) A cop in the front door directs you to this little tables where some ladies are waiting. The tables are broken down to correspond to the fist letter of you last name. After that you enter the place and all you see is table after table full of food, and more food, and more food....... Also they'll have a CD playing over and over on the audio system. You have the choice to grab as much food as you can or approach a little table where they give you a white bag. Inside the box if I recall correctly is a "FULL" Yes FULL copy of Windows XP Professional, a set of CD's of Visual .NET Academic edition, A Visual .NET T-shirt wrapped up in the shape of the Vs .NET logo, a little white container with mints, a pencil with a useless spiderball stuck to it, a magazine and a survey they ask you to please fill out, but you don't have too. So FYI the bag is given to you at the beginning. Then the show starts. After the show ends a band starts playing trendy cover songs and every one walks out while they're playing. But they're good though. Oh and I almost forgot, you also get a some stickers ot Microsoft Visual .NET

I hope that answers your question.

The version of VS.Net that they hand out is 6 discs. There's 4 program discs, 1 windows component update disc, and a student tools disc. I have no idea what the student disc is for...never put it in. VS.Net takes up about 2.5gb of hd space...I was surprised, and it took a long time to install...and I have a P3 900. You can only use it 5...I think it was 5...and then you have to register either on the phone or online with Microsoft...just like Office Xp or Windows XP...but you are allowed to install it on up to 3 machines if you are the sole user...:)

damit, i wish microsoft held free stuff in australia too. :hurt: :ermm: :(

The student tools disc just contains some MS stuff for submitting and retrieving your CS homework online. However, my school (Georgia Tech) already has that, so I don't think MS will get us to budge. Plus, our's was designed by a graduate student here at the school, so I think we'll stay with our custom designed stuff.. :D

As for pics, it's nothing too special. Just imagine a bunch of nerds in a big room watching 2 projectors showing VS.Net.

Pretty dull if it weren't for the free stuff :D
