altezza Veteran Posted March 25, 2002 Veteran Share Posted March 25, 2002 With my old Pentium, I rarely turn it off... Now with my Athlon XP, I have to turn off when not in use...fan is really noisy and leaving it always on could ended up with high electricity bill. It's better to turn off computer because the chip will last longer.
Qwakui
I leave 2 of my computers in StandBy overnight but otherwise turned on. My third stays on all of the time, as it refuses to standby every since I put WinXP on it. Laptop goes off whenever it's not in use.

nomis_nehc
I already posted in here couple days ago. And I am one of those that leaves on comp for 24/7. But just yesterday, I installed a new chasis fan and decide to slap on my silver tornado for my cpu... and voila, instantly dropped 10C even on full load. But damn! It's so friggin loud! So now I am thinking perhaps I should really turn it off "sometimes". :)

Faction
well, if your using a crap computer such as dell, gateway, compaq,hp,micron - etc, then sure leave it on, but i know if you built your own nicely cooled rig [stress the cooled] then its to ****ing loud for you to sleep on ;D but if you can live with the sound. leave it on. Impulfusion
I baught a computer 2 years ago so I was a newbie, I was turning my computer off when I did not needed it and started it up when I needed. 2 Months Later.... My hard disk was broked: The ?arm? was stocked. I had to buy a new hard disk. 4 Months Later.... My processor broked in 2 parts. My cousin who is accually working for a bank knows computers very well and told me that a computer need to stay on everytime! I change my Processor and then I never shuted it down for longtime and now 2 years passed and I had no more problems with my PC. Stand By is good but be very carefull with the hard disk! They can broke because in stand by the hard drives are shuted down so for them it's the same thing that if you turned the hole computer off...And don't worry about energy...WE GOT LOT OF ENERGY!
