Windows FCKGW

5 stars mate! ;)

I do work at MS and have my own copies of the OSes, but this one sure made me and my colleagues go LOL !

I like Windows 2006 or Windows 6 a lot though :o

it'll probably be some lame soundbite tagged to the end of "Windows" that makes it so they can brand all of their products with that same suffix. NT, 2000, XP.... they slowly atrophy into less and less sensical naming schemes. expect something along the lines of Type-R.

I can tell you that is no final name flying around here, and that there is no clue for now.

Look at MS naming conventions for the past years:

XP

2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, ........

.net

so, now there are some products with the 2005 tag, like Money, Virtual Server and MOM.

Longhorn should be out in 2006, the name we should think will be with the year tag, but as with XP, and Longhorn is even bigger and more important to MS, so be ready for something completly new!

MY OPINION: The server will be named 2006, the client... hummmmmmmmm don?t really have a clue, but along the lines of Windows Future :

I think it should be the same as its project name... ANYWAYS I most likely will not have the money to buy it when it does come out... Guess Ill stick with Windows Xp Home or Pro.

Let me take another stab at this... XP = Cross Platform

So what's so grand about Longhorn? Innovative UI, New Networking Abilities, Versatility, Security.... so how about ...

Windows NX (Windows Next)

- NX in Star Trek folklore is typically tagged on experimental ships with grand new technology.. sounds like Longhorn to me.

- Or -

Follow the OS naming conventions within the past year...

Windows XP For Tablet PC 2005

Windows Mobile For Pocket PC 2003 SE

Windows Mobile For Smartphone 2003

Windows For Personal Computer 2006

Windows For Server 2007

I think that we will see, for the first time, a deviation from the legacy 2-letter combination. Keep in mind that the real OS version is Windows NT 6.0

My guess is that .Net will NOT make it into the final product name. Microsoft has realized that tacking .Net to everything is a confusing mistake and has backed out of its branding plans.

CE is from Windows CE

ME is from Windows ME

NT is from Windows NT

=CEMENT!

when i gave a persuasive speech on alternative shells sophomore year of college, i opened up my powerpoint with that kind of joke (i used the three logos of CD ME and NT in succession and i asked them to read it).

a good laugh was had by all in attendance.
