what will be the final name of Longhorn?

Recommended Posts

I doubt it will be named Windows 2006, it is kind of lame.  I expect it to follow of routes of having two letters to represent it like XP.  Something like Windows RX (Revolutionary eXperience).

Windows RX Sounds like a Prescription drug. LOL.

It sounds cool but I am sure MS will give it a lame name anyways.

Windows Longhorn sounds nice.

Though Mac fans would all rise and say that Microsoft was stealing the naming system from Apple (Tiger, Panther, etc.)

Or they could change the whole operating system's name, which would either be a great marketing strategy or a big marketing fluke.

It must be a damned job to try and come up with a catchy name..

In all seriousness tho, they may want to stay with the name XP and simply call it Windows XP Version 2006

but since this is a major update (Windows XP was based off Windows 2000) it may be called Windows 2006.

Believe it or not it's going to be called

Windows 6 Professional

Windows 6 Home Edition

Windows 6 MCE

That would be cool

I don't think they will use numbers in this name. Numbers outdate something too quickly. For example... Windows 2000... it seems old becuase of the "2000", whereas "XP" still sounds fresh and new. There was some very clever marketing going on there and I wouldn't be surprised to see somthing similar this time round.

Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows Server Edition

Microsoft Windows Media Center Edition

they could just have a version number in small print under the name for example, and the os would be referred to as Windows build 6452 or whatever.
