Wirless Network (Opinion)

Recommended Posts

Yo guys (ang girls)... i'm trying to set up a wireless network over here with my laptop and my PC. I already know how to do it but i'm wondering about the hardware....

i'd like to get this:

http://www.bromax.com/product%20list/wirel...ss/bwa204-p.htm

and that's the info.

Do you guys think that's a good one. I'll only be using it with my laptop so it's doesn't need to be able to handle alot of load and i will prolly connect another PC to the 100 base-t port. When considering Wirless networks???? (it's for my apartment and it's not that big so 100M is more than enough.)

yeah and wait a min.. can i use this as a "router." like connect my cable modem to it then connect the PCs to it or will i have to get another network card and use Internet Sharing in XP to get it to work?

hehe.. it's even better now... 802.11B is 11Mbps running on the 2.4Ghz spectrum. 802.11A is 100Mbps (79Mbps for most) running on the 5Gz spectrum.! :) I wish i could afford 802.11A but for now this is more than enough.. i will only be using that slow ass laptop to browse the net and network with my main PC!

Get a wireless router with at least 3 land line connections. And get the one with the longest data reach.

I currently have a 1500 meter max on my wireless IO DATA (japanese) router. It has 3 land lines for ethernet and up to 30 simultaneous connections via wireless.

yikes.. 1500M! I wouldn't wanna see how big that thing is... plus it's only indoor and in my backyard that i'd need access (summertime chillin outside on the porch or under a tree is gonna be fun!!) but does anyone know if this is a router as well or just like a normal hub with wirless capabilities?

if u go wireless, check for a wireless SWITCH but if not, get a router

accordin to the site it's a Switch! BroMax's FreePort Station - AP + 4-Port Switch what's different and why is a switch betteR?

switches preserve packets or in other words they give each computer on a network the same amount of data transfer -- being 10 mb or 100 meg whereas a normal hub divides the 100 or 10 meg up to each pc
