viruses in images?

Recommended Posts

I've scanned a ghost image file and found no viruses...but when I burned the image to a laptop and started it up, the virus appeared. It was the virus that would shut down your machine after 60 seconds or so.

that is the sasser virus. u get tat if u run windows without a firewall or patch lol

But you don't get the sasser worm in images. It uses an exploit in the RPC service, that listens on a certain port, to infect the computer.

Well you can rename a file to a *.jpg and it will think its an image when its not, so you could rename a virus file to an image file, and the comp would try to open it as an image

I guess it could use a buffer overflow or whatever to execute code, but it would then be dependant on what program you used to view the image. (remember the IE 5.5 bmp exploit after the win2k course leak)
