OldeCrow
the flash advertisements seem to be partially covering the recent news stories. perhaps this is just a problem with my system but it makes it extremely hard to read the news articles. now this isnt a problem for me since i run a usually run a 1600x1200 screenmode and the news story and ad both fit my browser window in that screenmode but even in a 1280x1024 screen mode with explorer windowed the ad is covering the story. i think a better solution is in order i understand the need to generate revenue but not at a cost of the content of the site .. besides i wouldnt date anyone i met on the internet, were all perv's and wierd-o's here right ;)
trigger_my_passion
That was the reason I installed and use Ad Muncher. Another alternative is for you to use Firefox w/ Ad block extension.
OldeCrow
That was the reason I installed and use Ad Muncher. Another alternative is for you to use Firefox w/ Ad block extension. that would work ok except the ad is in an IFRAME so it hides the news story weather or not the ad source is blocked
Redmak Administrators Posted July 27, 2004 Administrators Share Posted July 27, 2004 Hmmm weird. It seems to work just fine for me in both browsers.

Steffan
I have a 800x600 monitor I thought neowin was made for 1024x768 resolution and higher. If you were viewing at a lower resolution, the ads will block part of the news posts on the front page.
Redmak Administrators Posted July 28, 2004 Administrators Share Posted July 28, 2004 It's just Opera in low resolutions that doesn't work (yet). Everythings fine in all other cases.
WishX
It's just Opera in low resolutions that doesn't work (yet). Everythings fine in all other cases. I can reproduce the overlapping problem in IE and/or MyIE2/Maxthon. I've found that it depends on the ad. Some overlap, others go under the text. Ads that cover text: Flash Ad - movie, "Collateral" Flash Ad - Monster.com Ads that slide under the text: Classmates.com - Link here US Navy - Link here Seems only Flash ads do it. I just scaled down my browser size and refreshed a couple articles a about 100 times to see what ads came up and how they effected the page. So far, it appears that Flash ads overlap while static graphic images don't. This was done with Maxthon (IE6 engine).
-=SD=-
Same for me as WishX, when using the old pc, the monitor was only 800x600, a lot of the news were blocked with those (flash) ads. Using IE6 (sp1/sp2) and Maxthon (same IE engines).
d4rkn1ght
Same thing here using a Mac. Although is not really a big problem once the browser is set to full view. :hmmm:
Darkness Muta
I have noticed this happening a lot more recently. It is annoying to have to use outside programs to read the new at this site properly.
L3thal Veteran Posted August 3, 2004 Veteran Share Posted August 3, 2004 I find it quite annoying as well. For now, I have the ads blocked.
GAM
Here's how it looks like with my Opera 7.54 Build 3865. Resolution: 1024x768. Very annoying.
GAM
I installed Ad Muncher too, and that removed the ads so I can now read the text. However, Ad Muncher is not free --do we have to pay to be able to read Neowin now?
L3thal Veteran Posted August 5, 2004 Veteran Share Posted August 5, 2004 Pay to read Neowin? Neowin is free, no charges are applied.
GAM
Pay to read Neowin? Neowin is free, no charges are applied. Read my posts again. I said I could not read the entire posts because the ads overlap the text. The only way I can read the full text is AFAIK to use Ad Muncher, and Ad Muncher is not free --get it?
