Raum
You have an 80 gig harddrive yet you're trying to free up a few megs? Interesting. Anyways, I don't know how well this will work. You'll need to find alternate means of getting your Windows Updates, that's for sure. I'm trying to think of any other things that depend on IE to function in windows...oh well. Nothing really pops into mind.
mc_leish
seems weird i know with the 80G's and all but yes, nearly full :( thats fine, i can cope with it, it seems firefix dosent want to load when click on the Inbox link in my MSN Messenger contact list, well something up to 10 mins so i think ill leave it, thanks though :)

Raum
you know that you need IE for windowsupdate do you? i think yo ucan use myie2 aswell but don't count on what i say... Well I know you could use autopatcher as an alternative, but I'd only do that if you're behind a good hardware firewall, because you won't be getting updates in a timely manner. I'm not sure if having the automatic updates service running needs IE to download them or not, I've never tried. If you're looking to save space, I'd do things like empty all recycle bins and set lower limits for their size, clearing out temp files and caches, manually searching for things you don't need or use, uninstalling programs and maybe compressing directories you don't use often (Assuming you're using NTFS). Hope that helps some.

I don't think you need to use Internet Explorer to get to the windows up-date web site. Click on your "start" button - click on "Help and Support" - (Pick a Task) click on "Keep your computer up-to-date with Windows Update"
mrvc
If you want to save more space, delete all the system restore points by turning off system restore on all drives and turning it back on.
Fred Derf Veteran Posted July 29, 2004 Veteran Share Posted July 29, 2004 If you really want to uninstall IE then consider 2000lite or whatever it is called (from the makers of 98lite). It works on Windows 2000 and XP.

justlooking
If you need extra space there are Windows and WMP tour videos in Windows/Help that are over 20MB you can get rid of. Xp also has copies of tour.exe so overall you can get rid of 30MB.

PseudoRandomDragon
CP> Add/Remove Programs> Access and Defaults> Custom> Uncheck "Enable access to this program". That doesn't remove IE, that just removes the icons for it. There is no removing IE. Microsoft forces you to have it if you use their OS.

L3thal Veteran Posted August 4, 2004 Veteran Share Posted August 4, 2004 Get rid of the icons and that's all. Is IE bothering you to the point that you want it uninstall? Not that you can uninstall it without affecting your system
