luna theme file = "LUNA.MSSTYLES".

this, he says, is one of three things that make Luna themes work.

u can find the theme file in "%systemroot%Resources"

i was tryin to attach ResHack, but NeoWin kept saying it was too big.

Yeah anyway I'm waiting for Windowblinds 6 final and hoping it will be integrated well with WinXP and then we can choose desired themes.

Choose themes!? HA! Hopefully, they make some mods to SkinStudio and allow us to make our own themes that change colors for things like the taskbar and start button. :)

Heheh certainly I hope I can change the green color Start button.

What's wrong with an addon feature that allows us to change the colours? Not to change the size or shape or anything, just things like the colour of the start button and main colour of the theme.

Also, I read an article saying that Plus! will feature new skins when it obviously doesn't. Where do they get their bad information from?

i realiZed only afterward that it got posted twice, because i had two browser windows open and posted in both windows.

lol :D quite the dumbass indeed!

i'm gonna upload the ResHack elsewhere, 'cos it looks like i'm out of GeoCities space. if u still can't get it, just get it from the official site @ http://rpi.net.au/~ajohnson/resourcehacker/

and i just installed WB3 and it has another skin in it that skins the taskbar. it's called XPCopper.

now u can't say that it isn't in there.

As I just read on the Resource Hacker homepage, you can hack almost every win32 executable (dll's exe's).

I guess you just have to try. At least, that's what I'm going to do now. And I ain't got a backup from my system, let's pray it all goes well.

he gave me a run down and i actually understand.

here are the files responsible for the themes:

1. %systemroot%Resourcesluna.theme

this file contains your average run of the mill theme stuff

(like 9x and Me).

2. %systemroot%Resourceslunaluna.msstyles

this is the big cahouna. (did i spell that right?)

this file contains all the bitmaps, .CSS files for the web view

and colour values for objects that don't get themed.

this, he says, is the key to the whole theming process.

if u mess with this file, luna themes are disabled because

the signature for the file changes, and xp will not tolerate that

kind of manipulation.

if u try to change it while xp's running (by switching to classic,

changing the file, then switching back to luna) the entire

interface will go black. the only visible thing will be the

wallpaper and the document work area.

so unless u have great windows "muscle memory", don't mess

with it. the only alternative is to create ur own .msstyles and

try to get xp to accept it. well, that or windowblinds xp.

3. %systemroot%system32uxtheme.dll

don't mess with this. even classic view is dependent on it.

none of the controls do anything without this file.

that's about it. now please direct ur questions and comments to:

mventour@hotmail.com

i feel weird being mr. messenger. no offense to u.
