You'd really be pushing it for Doom 3 and Far Cry. I'm sure it would hold out on lower settings. ATi has released the Mobility 9700 and the 9800 since then. Possibly bump up to a 725 or 735 if you can, it would help. The 705, I think, only has 1 MB of L2 cache..above that it jumps to 2MB

the max option for the vga just ati 9600pro.

so the only chance is i go with upgrading the cpu?

or should i even wait until the end of the year? hihi its about 3-4 more months...will i get even better deal then?

Well that looks like a sweet laptop but i doubt Doom3 on any laptop, you'd prolly need a Desknote for good gaming with Doom3 or go for the all out banging PC :D

Moved - Nothing to see here??:ninja:a:i>

does pentium m makes better performance compare to pentium 4?

I prefer the amd 64-bit processor for accelerated gaming and whatnot! All new gaming technology, etc is aimed towards working coherently with the 64-bit processor!

PM is waay better than the P4-M in my opinion... waaay less power usage and just as much speed. The 1.6Ghz PM out there is close to a 2.8Ghz P4-M or maybe a 2.6 but defintely blows even a regular P4 2.0Ghz out the water in the desktop PC (talking bout the 1.6Ghz PM here) A 3.2Ghz might be killer but it is also a killer for your battery so you wont get much there.... I'd rather more battery since it's a laptop, if's i want power i jump on the desktop :-D

The Pentium M 705 is CRAP!!!! You need to get at least the 715 so you get the brand new lower power higher performance DOTHAN CORE (2MB L2 CACHE).

The Pentium M 705 is NOTHING MORE than a Modified OLD Last Years BANIAS (130nm 1MB L2 Cache) Core.

Here is a $100.00 off coupon code on an INSPIRON thats $1250.00 or more:

JLGDHM4LW7W?SL --- Expires August 10th.

I noticed yours was $1257.00 use that coupon and save your self 100 bucks and you can use that 100 dollars off to UPGRADE the CPU to the Pentium M 715! :D

Enter the coupon at the Dell.com checkout screen.

Where can you get this laptop?

(if you remove the "FREE BONUS" 19 titles of software, you will get back $5...)

i have an inspiron 8500 right now, it has hte geforce2go 4200. The major issue is game resolutions, not many support hte 1680x1050 widescreen which means often you will either have hte black borders or a lower resolution in the same aspect ratio, its very dissapoiinting.

Halo runs pretty decent on the system, especially multiplayer, the only thing is that the system constantly overheats. I had to download a program that let me manually control the fans to get some more time out of it. At idle hte graphics card is at 60c its suppose to remain under 68c at all times, mine is usually in the low 70's when gaming, not good.

The 9600 runs much hotter than this one apprently, i could upgrade but its not worth much in performance from what ive read, so you might want to look at a different system with better cooling for gaming, this one is dissapointing.

install his own OS...everyone has a copy of Windows 98 lying around...

...just use your imagination.

Win98 on a I8600? Would that even work?

Maybe i should speak up :)

i have that EXACT same laptop

Runs doom 3 in 640x480 fine

it can play the game at about 3-8fps at max settings too :D

Unreal 2004 plays fine on it at 1024x768 normal settings

i havent got far cry so i cant try it out

Its a great laptop tho

apart from the 4400rpm hard-drive being a tad slow for installs, etc

I was joking...i know everyone has Win98 lying around...

I know windows 98 stinks in comparison to 2000/XP...

I would choose XP for that system in a heartbeat.

Im sure everyone has a copy of XP lying around...i do :).

wtf is a compal..

ya got me...

alls i know about it is that it won the PC Magazine Editors Choice for July or something...very recent.

There was some article on best laptops/desktops for college...and the Compal CL56 sold by velocitymicro.com (the campus edition) won the editors choice over models from Dell, Gateway, eMachines, Compaq, HP, Toshiba, Sony, IBM, etc.

my 8500 overheats, i had to download a program that lets me control hte fans to keep it cool while playing halo.

needless to say i overclocked it today anyway because hte 4200 is capable of being overclocked from 390mhz memory to 500mhz memory and from 190mhz core to 250mhz while remaining completely stable. i have mine at 230/475 and its running only 1-2 degrees hotter once in awhile, ive yet to give it a try ingame, but supposidly people have had score increases of 10% and more in 3dmark.

On most of today's notebook systems, the left palm gets hot.

That's because most manufacturers are putting the HD in there.

I used a ThinkPad and that left palm gets real hot. I start sweating and it irritates me.

Toshiba Satellite M30 (Korean Version) .... let's not even go there.
