Crunch
I was wondering why there are tons and tons of old member names stored and they dont have an auto-delete Is there any reasoning behind this. There are 30650 accounts with NO posts and tons are months even years gone. Just wondering?
Steven
Neowin does not delete accounts. Even if they have 0 posts and not been here in a while. It allows if by chance for the user to return to the site.
Timan Veteran Posted August 6, 2004 Veteran Share Posted August 6, 2004 Theres no need to delete the accounts, users have to login anyway to read recent/active/new posts.
Evil Dragon
Some people sign up just to lurk. If Neowin started pruning users it might **** off a lot of people. ;)
Chode
There are no rules indicating you have to post, I do believe.

Bearded Kirklander
Besides, it sounds cooler to say you have 50,000+ members instead of 20,000+ actual active members. :) Like at Spymac. They have like 650,000 members but only between 300 and 4000 are online at any time. Kinda like how your 17" CRT monitor is called 17" but is really 16" diagonal. :o :p

Bearded Kirklander
Hmm, good point. I like Neowin. I'm not about to criticize it. I think it's my new home on the net. :) I don't want to bite the hand that feeds me. I need to just shut up, keep participating and enjoy this great place. :woot: Really, I dig Neowin totally - good stuff. (Y) Thanks NeoBond and all the rest for letting us post and post and post and still not get in trouble. You guys rock!

ECEGatorTuro
I was one of those people that used to lurk around NW and then I got an account and still lurked for a little. Once I started posting, I couldn't stop! ;)
Xylene
Doesn't 30000 members kind of waste space in the MySQL database?
KC
Doesn't 30000 members kind of waste space in the MySQL database? Probably but how could they tell which ones to delete and which ones to keep.
