Question about Circumventing Swear Filter

Recommended Posts

I know it's against the rules to circumvent the swear filter, yet there's one member on the board that I've seen recently whose nick contains "sh!t"

Now, wouldn't that be considered circumventing the swear filter?

It isn't uncommon at all to see people circumventing the swear filter. You even see mods doing it often enough. I don't mind too much though. Unless it becomes a crazy problem i wouldn't worry about it too much.

People do it all the time and I have never personally seen anyone get in trouble for it. One would assume that was just a matter of time before it was done in the name field.

Well, unfortunatley mods can't catch everything. It really ticks me off when people try to circumvent the swear filter, it's stupid and immature. The swear filter is there for a reason and if the admins wanted you to get around it, it would exist. Plus, if you can't get across your point without swearing then you need a life.

Now, I'm not saying I don't swear. I mean... Swear when appropriate - that's what the filter is there for - but Neowin caters to lots of different people, and some parents don't like their 13 year olds reading that kind of stuff. Yeah, those people are probably a little weird but it's their choice how they raise their kids.

I realize that everything I've said in this post makes me sound like some ultra-conservative, and I'm not. I probably swear more than most of the people on this board in real-life, but doing things like using that 'u' with the two dots over it, or cash signs for an 's'. Come on...

I personally know the person that BTallack means and this person, who shall go unnamed, swears quite a lot in everyday life, so you expect to see it from him really

Swears are just words that a few people looked at and said "OMG Those ****ing words are bad"

So, I close off with:

"**** the ****ing ****ers that **** ****ing ****ers who **** ****ing ****ers to **** ****ing ****ers"

Is it just me, or was just useless..

We are already aware of a few with names like that so just report them if you happen to come across one :)

Should we simply PM a mod, or use the report button. (which seems kinda illogical, as it's not the thread or the post being reported.)

Obviously you already know which user I'm referring to in this case, so I don't think I need to report this one.

There's no "Report" button on the user profile page, or do we just report their post, or PM a mod/admin?

well, you could just kinda "look the other way"... try looking at it this way...

Which one is easier to read:

1) whoa sh!t d00d my fux0ring sh1ttee computer just blew the fsck up...

OR

2) whoa **** d00d my ******** ******* computer just blew the **** up...

I choose 2... just another way to look at it. And anybody not even remotely in "the scene" wouldnt know what it said anyway...
