XP SP2 BUG's

Recommended Posts

When i finnished installing everything, i rebooted. When computer started again, explorer.exe always froze, i had to end it and start it up again. Then i did a second clean install, this time app by app restarting between each one. I found Map Point 2004 caused this freezing (it didnt in sp1) so i uninstalled it on the 2nd install and it works fine now. The first install of sp2, even with map point uninstalled, still freezes.

When playing Need for Speed Underground, and then exiting the game, leaves you with no mouse cursor. You must open something like Task Manager to get the mouse back.

Not a huge deal to me, just seems kinda odd.

My Creative Dxr3 Decoder board no longer works. When I install the drivers Windows will no longer boot. I'm also TOTALLY sure that Creative will not make a patch for it. Guess I'm ****** on this one.

Anyone facing IE held ups on websites having movies running automatically either using QuickTime or Macromedia Flash Player? Besides that no problems what so ever, infact Add/Remove Programs is opening pretty quick, IE & WMPlayer response has drastically improved

Well, found my first bug with service pack 2.

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 398 Kbps about 0.4 Mbps (tested with 386 KB)

Download Speed is:: 49 KB/sec

Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/

Bottom Line:: 7 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 20.9 second(s)

Validation Link:: http://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=27ND6QIF7

To explain: I'm on comcast cable, which normally gets me around 3 mbps down. That translates into roughly a 300-350K download speed. Upon installing SP2, I've been diminshed to the speeds above. This speed test has been run twice with the same result. I'm also downloading a large set of files at about 100K/s with no fluctuation in speeds.

Tested our home network at it's fine on another XP Pro box with SP1 installed. No issues there and getting around 3 mbps down.

Can others run a speed test from www.testmy.net to see how speeds are?

I'm running an AMD 2500+ with an Nforce2 board and Nic drivers.

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 2330 Kbps about 2.3 Mbps (tested with 1013 KB)

Download Speed is:: 284 KB/sec

Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/

Bottom Line:: 42 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 3.61 second(s)

Validation Link:: http://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=56B21Y2YI

Anyway, I installed SP2, and my computer's been running pretty stable so far.

When I first installed SP2 I restarted ok and then I repatched uxtheme and again restarted alright, but then i shut down my computer for the night last night and when i turned it on this morning i got and "Operating System not found" error. I turned the computer on and off a few times and got the same error and I was about to put in my XP cd and see what I could do but when I started the computer up again it booted fine. I have no idea what happened and I'm afraid to turn off my computer again,

I had none of the following problems with build 2149 they appeared in RTM.

1 - When loading explorer it randomly hangs for approximately 30 seconds or so, doesnt always happen pc is under light load and I have setup the pc no different from previous windows installs.

2 - I set the computer name in system properties but in dxdiag it still shows the name that was set on windows install.

3 - Web page loading in MYIE2 startup is significantly slower, same app but new version of windows service pack it seems to struggle with simultaneous connections now.

4 - File associations keep resseting I have twice lost .zip and .rar associations they get reset to nothing.

May have already been asked, but with the amount of posts... well, you get the idea. Quick question: is there a readily available list of bugs in the final release version of SP2? I work for a company that has a very large user-base of Windows XP users (large as in a good number of real-estate companies in Japan). Before we start getting support calls from our users (they will call regardless of the problems not being with our software), I'd like to find at least a somewhat definitive list of bugs in SP2. Thanks ahead of time for any pointers.

And no, scanning through all the posts for possible bugs and searching for answers/solutions to those bugs myself is not an answer. ;)

Jesus that's a big list. Looks like SP2 caused more problems then it fixed.
