Thought of posting this in the Jokes forum but then again it's not really funny :right:

If someone were to ask you which of the following you identified with or felt represented your position in life (or at work), which would you choose?

  • The Dog
  • The Hydrant
  • The Sidewalk

There is something behind this, a sort of philosophy if you will, but I don't want to ruin the surprise (I can see you all waiting in anticipation to learn the great mystery :ponder: ) I know this sounds dumb... well it is so just humour me :D I'm having an off day.

(Sorry, but I often choose other -- which is why me and mulitple choice tests don't get along).

Never thought about bringing a cat into the equation... then again maybe the wise man ate the cat so it wouldn't matter. :D

As I'm posting this, The Sidewalk choice seems to be leading... guess most of us aren't fooling ourselves about our status in life and at work. If you haven't figured it out yet, here is the run down on each choice.

  • The Dog - is basically at the top of the world, he gets to **** on everyone else and be pampered.
  • The Hydrant - is next on the list, he gets ****ed on by the dog, but gets to blow off some steam and **** on someone else. He is used only when someone wants something.
  • The Sidewalk - is the last on the list, he gets ****ed on by the dog and the hydrant, but just has to deal with it. He gets trampled on by everyone all the time.

Now wasn't that enlightening?! :old: Now before you go crediting me with some great wisdom, I got the idea from a t-shirt I bought... the one I wear to work sometimes to **** my boss off :D . Hope he's not a member on here... :paranoid:

Yeah it's pretty obvious, but I had someone at work ask me about it one day... they just didn't get it :p

The shirt I have actually says, "Somedays you're the dog... Somedays you're the hydrant", I thought adding the sidewalk part made it complete.

Since I work in the IT/Software development field I have to say I feel like a hydrant :D , sucks for the users  .

Yeah I meant the dog, but some cultures do worship them... or is that eat them... :ermm:

Heh. That was more simple than I thought. I thought it was going to be something misleading or tricky.

Though it's a good example, I don't think it covers quite all the bases. I don't think that anyone is stuck in one status. Depending on the situation, place, etc, his/her role changes.

So... me, sometimes I am the dog, sometimes the hydrant, and other times the side walk.
