If you do major gaming, DVD ripping, Video Editing, multitasking then get it. If you are a WORD PRO man, emailer, surfer, then don't SImple as that. I think 512MB is sufficient for most processes. In fact, if you belong to the latter category of PC user, then 256 MB should suffice. If however, you are a PC wizard, who whips up massive CGI's, DV editing, etc... then go with the more is better mentality. SOrry about the trivality of my initial post.
