Can an X-Box display HTML/Java via broadband?

Recommended Posts

ie does it have a web-browser to use with the modem? Does it use these higher level protocols/can it, or is it only for playing online games via a set x-box channel? Thanks!

I have no real answer to offer, but I'd be very suprised if microsoft were narrow minded enough to limit its expansion in that respect.

After all, it runs an MS OS, has a hard drive, and a modem.

I suspect somekind of html browser could easily be installed. Obviously they would have put in some kinda security to prevent any one dumping crap on it. Xbox viruses :|

Actually thats a good point, HTML means potential entry point for viruses. Hm.

I think I read somewhere that you would have to connect via microsoft for $10-$15 a month, and its only for online games.. Neowin on your telly would be nice though :)

You wouldnt be able to read it, the writing would be too small! I connected up a mates laptop using his TV out so we could watch a film on the TV, when it was just the desktop you couldnt see a thing! (Tvs are only a few hundred lines unlike our huge-res monitors)

my PC displays fine at 1024x768 with Tv-out (geforce), problem is the wires are too long.. :) HDTVs have a higher res, non? You can read text fine on most tv internet things too..

I don't know how many times this has to be mentioned. The XBox is not a computer. It is a gaming console, and nothing else. Yes, it will have online play capability through the use of its Ethernet port. It will be used only for gaming though.

It will not browse the Internet; it will not download anything; it will not check your email; it will not install Photoshop; it will not let you send Instant Messages to your buddies; it will not download porn; and most importantly, it will not crash and give you a blue screen of death.

The XBox is built to be a gaming console, and it will always be a gaming console. It will only connect to the Internet to be able to play games online with other XBox owners. It will not be able to do anything else with its built-in Ethernet jack.

That's about as official as I can make it sound. :D
