Using Dell OEM XP Disk for slipstream

Recommended Posts

It is a Dell disk, depending on how I try to go about integrating it different things happen.

If I try the method described my MS in the KB (copy contents of disk to HD, then run xpsp2.exe -s <contents of xp disk> ) then the service pack procedes to extract but then when it tries to execute I get the "You are trying to integrate into an installation with updates".

If I try using the method you mentioned to remove the updates,

1. Delete the directory "SVCPACK"

2. Delete the file "SVCPACK.INF"

3. Delete all files named "Q??????.EXE"

4. Delete the following lines in "DOSNET.INF":

[OptionalSrcDirs]svcpack

Then trying to run the service pack with the -s option a help window pops up after the service pack extracts that displays the options that are available. Its like the service pack does not recognize the directory as a windows disk anymore.

I'm really at a loss here....

I could give you my i386 files with xp sp2 intergrated. It just might take a long time pm if you are interested.

You must have xp home for this to be legal cause I have xp home

If this is warez please xp explain to me how in a pm and remove my post.

You mainly need the cd key.

The copy I have is XP Home, its completely legit. I got it with my last computer, of course being a Dell.

But now I don't need the Dell crap on it anymore, I just wanna be able to use the copy of Windows that I friggin paid for. I believe all I would need is the i386 directory, I have the CD-Key. Though the i386 directory is the heart of the installation right, so I could see how the distribution of it can be construed as illegal.

After thought: last reason why I will never be buying another Dell or prefabbed computer, besides a Mac AGAIN....

First does a friend of yours have a cd with xp sp1 or even just xp.

If not I could give you a list of all the files in the I386 Folder or screen shots maybe. What do you think.

It would be the same thing with the mac if more people use the os.

Plus it just dell. It all depends on the factory who made the cd.

I'll work on it tommorrow cause it is 10:55 pm right know and I will have a list up maybe in about a day or two

If you find a friend see if they would let you use there cd and just copy the i386 files then download the ident file form here.

What program are you planning on using to slipstream windows xp sp2?

remove the dot between msfn

I don't know why they consider it spam?

its GAY isn't it.....

The reason why it doesn't slipstream is because dell integrated hotfixes into the installation.

You only need to do as stated before and remove the hotfixes from the i386 folder. Dell might have even had a batch file install the updates inside of the $OEM$ folder. You may need to look there to delete the updates.

As for me... I installed windows xp with a slipstreamed copy of xp... activated it, installed every app I use, and made a norton ghost image. So, formatting only takes me about 20 minutes, tops, and its all configured EXACTLY the way I want it. Right down to which web sites I'm already logged into (neowin)...

Shouldn't you be using the new syntax: XPSP2.EXE /intergrate: rather than XPSP2.EXE -s: ?

I don't mind taking a closer look - if you don't mind? Try doing a dir:

From a command prompt:

cd copy_of_xp_that_wont_be_slipstreamed

dir /s/b/ogn >c:\xpfiles.txt

and attach the c:\xpfiles.txt to a post... maybe I or someone else can spot something odd.

Well, you still have hotfixes integrated as far as I can tell. In the i386 folder do this: (1) delete the subdir SVCPACK, (2) delete SVCPACK.INF, (3) remve the following lines from DOSNET.INF:

{OptionalSrcDirs]

svcpack

That ought to do it

just tried it, same thing as before....

Ok. I have a list of all the files need to make an xp sp1 cd. Then you could slipstream windows xp sp2. Warning I have had troubles with a program called nlite when it came to windows xp sp2. You also need boot file thingy to boot the cd. For more info like at a guide. If you need one let me know.

    • This is not surprising of course and I stopped using Chrome years ago.
    • It's not that we have to many ads? WTF? LOL
    • I switched to AdGuard for this very reason. All my uBlock filters and user scripts ported over with no issues.
    • This is a hot take, but I only use "New" Outlook for 1 reason, the "My Day" side bar that shows your tasks and Calendar on "New" Outlook allows you to view shared calendars and not just your personal calendar. On "Classic" Outlook it only allows your personal Calendar. For my job, we have a group shared Calendar that shows appointments and scheduled tasks for the team and we don't really use our personal calendars.
    • Opera for Android gets redesigned home page with FIFA World Cup tracker by Taras Buria FIFA World Cup 2026 is kicking off in the United States later this week, and Opera, a popular cross-platform browser, is making it easier to track matches on mobile. Today, Opera announced a redesigned home page for its Android browser. The new home page is now "more immersive" with easier access to common browser features. Users can now customize Speed Dial icons (round, square, or squircle), enjoy a new weather widget with real-time conditions, and open AI Mode or a private session with a single tap. Additionally, the browser now has a built-in football tracker, allowing you to follow your favorite team without using dedicated apps. The tracker displays live scores, notifications, and statistics in a dedicated football hub. You can also check out line-ups, match events, and more. Opera surveyed its users, and 38% of responders said they plan to follow the FIFA World Cup 2026 in a browser. The tournament starts on June 11 and ends on July 19, 2026. "By providing football fans with instant access to live scores alongside a more considered design, we’re ensuring they are never more than a tap away from the action, even when they can't watch live," said Tim Lesnik, Product Manager at Opera Mobile. For Opera users in the United States, Opera runs a contest, offering them a chance to win tickets to a match in Miami in July, Android smartphones, PlayStation 5 consoles, smart TVs, and Amazon Vouchers. Users can participate by posting on social media with the #OperaFandom hashtag from June 12 or by signing up on the official Opera website. Opera will announce winners on July 3. You can download Opera for Android from the Google Play Store using this link.
