XPSP2 on pirated copies

Recommended Posts

Kagaku,

I take it you quoted me, but didn't read the post???

No.....they DO NOT sell Windows. They will not install Windows. They sell PC's that run Linux....and only Linux. It's actually the only computer store I know of that is like that.

Wow, I apologize. I don't know what I was thinking when I read that post.

So you are justifying pirating Windows because you own a version of XP Home and you don't want to pay for XP Pro? If you own an XP Home key then you can get a copy of the disk on a P2P network and use it legally with your key. You are just trying to ease your conscience when you know you are wrong.

Are you talking to me, huh, are you? Well actually I am downloading Home Edition but it just won't finish cause P2P programs don't download too fast when you have a NAT firewall which refuses to open ports

As it's already been stated, yes it works.

I don't know if you guys remeber this, But I read it on neowin frontpage news if i recall.

It said microsoft would not take any measures to block out cd-keys this time around because they were more concerned about the "saftey of their users" than blocking out pirated copies.

so ... yeah ^^

I think it was Steve Ballmer said that MS would much rather people pirate their software than use a competitors legitimately, which tells you volumes about their stance on piracy.

I bought my WinXP Pro. But instead of paying ?250 for it, I got it for just ?100. There was a catch though. IT was an OEM copy. Not a problem though as I build my own pc's. Oh, and one last thing, to be able to buy the OEM version you have to buy either a hard disc or mobo. Not a problem though as I could always use a spare 20GB Hard disc at only about ?15. So my legal copy of WindowsXP Pro only cost me ?115 instead of ?250 (64% saving) and I got a spare 20GB HDD.

Please note that I don't work for or have any connection to this company other than as a customer. I am using this as a real life example. You could maybe find it cheaper!

WinXP Pro OEM ?95

30Gb Maxtor Plus 8 - ATA-133 ?27

Total = ?130 including next day delivery. Home edition is ?23.50 cheaper.

Cheapest WinXP Pro full that I could find was ?230 incl delivery at anothe site.

Saving ?100 or 44 %

Ok, My friend has a pirate XP and he said his mate got him SP2 with a keygen. Is that version dodgy. Why would you need a keygen when it installs on pirate copies anyway.

My friend has got a Copied WinXP Pro CD (not original), the cd key is written onto the cd lable and it starts with RHKG3.

He downloaded SP2 final and now he want to Slipstreame using copied WinXP so that whenver he formats his Windows XP or reinstall the Windows XP, SP2 will automatically be there.

When doing Slipstreame, he has to copy all the files and folder to C drive and so on. Becase he does not have an original WinXP CD, he will copy the files from Copied WinXP Pro CD

He was asking me that will SP2 Slipstreame work using Copied WinXP Pro CD

If you want Windows XP for free, why don't you just do that Windows Mobile Training thing. :D

That's what I did. Free Windows XP, and no bad feelings. Why steal when you can obtain for free ;)

Stealing is bad... and if you want to be bad... then you go on, and be a baaaad boooy.

rawr. you know i haven't even get my keyboard yet.

Note Microsoft has put an end to the keygen with XP2.

Probably 90% of the "valid" cdkeys created with the keygen are no longer accepted during XP Pro SP2 installation. Of the 10% of those that are valid, 95% of those are no longer accepted by online activation with SP2. You'll be lucky to find 1 generated key in 200 that actually works with SP2 online activation. Of course, Microsoft logs all failed online activation attempts.

The original CD key algorithm was intended to support new XP licenses well into the future. However, Microsoft was using only a limited subset of those CD keys in shipping retail and oem copies of Windows XP. With SP2, Microsoft has eliminated most of the extra keys that were intended to support future XP licenses. As a replacement, Microsoft created a new, unhacked algorithm for new CD keys for future retail copies of XP SP2 and later.

If you've already registered XP with one of those old cd keys, then you should be Ok. If you have not, you are SOL. Windows XP piracy is coming to an end.

everythings seems A-OK on my rig

My friend had to use a keygen for his version, too.

These are quotes from just the last 7 posts.

Why does this forum tollerate crap like this? Does anyone care that your friend used a keygen? Does it make you look cool? Does anyone actually believe you have any friends?

Looking around the forum you have people bragging about stealing, speeding, etc... it won't be long till Neowin is used as a site for murderers to promote their latest kill. It doesn't matter that people are using illegal versions, that's not what I'm complaing about... it's the fact that people are here boasting/mentioning it. Nobody cares if your "friend" is using an illegal version - if you don't know why they have a keygen for SP2 then ask your "friend".
