i just recently installed a Raid card, and i am running Stripe. can i still image the hard drive with Norton Ghost?

also, this computer guy i talked to said you should always whipe a hard drive before installing windows. is this really necesary since the quick format destroys the file system anyway

Once a day

As a poll option? One person said they format once a day. When do they find the time to visit neowin inbetween all that formatting and reinstalling ;).

I used to format a lot when XP was in beta, to install new builds. Then i too started the formatting path once a week or so cos i couldent decide between XP and 2000. Settled on XP and now i just use it until it stops working them format and do the same. Next time round im going to go for Windows 2000 though i think.

As soon as there is a new windows version out I usually format one of my partitions and install there. When everything is fine I copy all user data and install the needed apps again. After a longer time when everything runs fine I format the old OS partition in order to get more free space.

I don't think its a good idea to format more often cause it makes only trouble and work!

And with file protection and device driver roll back there is no need any more to reformat in case of troubles :cheeky:

The frequency of my reformatoin depends on whether or not a virus/trojan cripples my system. I reformat when I can no longer boot properly.

One sumemr I reformatted 10+ times due to trojan/viri infections. :right:

I do it about every 4 to 5 months, to keep the system up to par. I like to try alot of new software and stuff.

As for the person who formats once a day??!! Nice joke!

I could just imagine the guy who would have the patients to do this. And if you do... I got a model boat in a glass bottle that needs to be dissasembled and rebuilt! :s

6 months is usually when I do it... either because huge patch is released or I'm replacing a major piece of hardware (I don't like to install Service Packs, rather, I prefer to slipstream them into the install).

Really? :o I had a PII 350 a while ago with Windows 98 SE and it was running the same install for about a year and a half. :)

Whenever I reinstall Windows XP I format my primary partition with the /u parameter for unconditional formatting. (format c: /u) Btw, has any1 noticed that when you do a format c: /q (quick) on a partition other than the system, u can still see the contents of such a drive in Windows XP...

Oh, and I reinstall XP every month - I like my system clean and fast :)

Usually once every 1-3 months, depending on what's acting up, if anything.

I time my computer randomly at least several times a week if it cant boot up exactly in a specified time or under, boom format central.

a computer should NOT need to be formated as often as a lot of ppl seem to...... if you run a clean sysem and work at it it should run just fine. i've talked to ppl who reformat everytime their computer hick-ups eek.gif
