A.K.R.
Aww man... heres another drug topic: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=201487 How is that a drug topic?
....
Now... Some people use the argument "It isn't illegal in all countries, so we should be able to talk about it". I know of at least one country that doesn't recognize any piracy laws, so does that mean that we should be able to talk about pirating also?Just a thought... We can talk about piracy, but we have rules not to promote piracy.

rumbleph1$h
All I see is a person asking for help about the Mac keyboard. I believe he is referring to the alternate 'hash' meaning.... ;) Personally, I don't see anything wrong with threads concerning drugs. Neowin is a place where you should be able to discuss most things as adults. I really doubt any little kids would stumble across a thread on Neowin which would cause them to start using drugs. As has been said before - things can be viewed as very harmful and evil in one culture and a blessing in another. As long as Neowin doesn't officially make that decision for us - I don't see how anyone can have problems with an occasional drug related thread. :) Just my $0.02.... matt74441
How about just don't go into the thread. Exactly. Its like everyone who always whine about there being too many "Post your" threads. Nobody is holding a gun to your head and forcing you go to read the thread. I'm not a big fan of the drugs, but do I care if someone talks about it on Neowin? No. Like it was mentioned I think that alcohol can be worse then drugs, but do I care if people talk about it? No. Like you have mentioned, this is an international forum and not everyone shares your views, so don't try and force them upon us.
Homer
Alcohol is worse than drugs, even though I'd rather not say why I say that, be asured. It kills.

A.K.R.
easiest option would be to make sure it stays in Members Metropolis were "adult" natured threads are alowed... I third that, though I also have some other opinions. When I proposed this rule, some of you may have misunderstood it as an outright banning of illegal drug abuse. My stand is, illegal drug discussion is OK, as long as it doesn't promote or glorify it. What was happening in the thread I mentioned in the first post was exactly. Some were even showing off their smoking pipes! I do not object to polls that ask about your opinion of illegal drugs, nor do I object to the discussion of illegal drugs (like it's effects on society). It's the same as other, more "taboo" topics on Neowin such as warez and cracks; as long as that person does not really provide links on where to download warez and how to do cracks, it's OK with me. They may be discussing about how warez has affected the software market, or the thread starter may ask whether you have used warez before. It's OK, as long as none of the people there post links to warez. Similarly, I do not object to you people discussing illegal drugs, but you should not be promoting it, like getting people to try them. I hope this clears things up a bit. If you skimed through this post, go back and read it more carefully. You may have missed some details.
pimpshiznid
As long as just even one country makes it illegal, it should be considered liiegal in an international forum like Neowin.Remember, Neowin is a PG-13 forum. Also, Neowinians come from different corners of the globe. Many come from the U.S. and European Union, some from Singapore, , some from Thailand, some from Brazil, some from Hong Kong, and the list goes on. Please respect the citizens of these other countries. No, you are wrong there. That's why there is the Members Metropolis. Legal... Hmm, in a lot of countries, everyday things are considered illegal. And in other countries, things that are illegal in some aren't. So, yes, this is a tech forum, but that's what those sections are for, off topic discussions. Just because it is illegal where you are at, doesn't mean it's illegal where the thread poster lives. As you said, this is a international forum, so, if you don't like the look of a thread by it's title, don't enter. Let's skip legality for a second, and move on to morals. If the speaking of drugs was banned, why not ban all references to sex, or cursing, hmm? Why not take away a persons ability to post whats on their mind? As long as it's in Members Metropolis, it should be fine, given it isn't anything too ixnay. Sure, the swear filter is in effect for a reason, and I'm not saying circumvent it. I just add that sometimes words are used to get a point across, and I don't condemn it. I'm just saying.
John Veteran Posted August 18, 2004 Veteran Share Posted August 18, 2004 Keyword: mostNot all....in some countries, weed is publicly accepted, why not on the forums? So since there is a minority of countries not prohibiting the use of narcotics, we should allow discussion of them here, even though the vast majority of members live in countries prohibiting the use of marijuana? With that logic, we should post links to any and all software/music any Neowin member is interested in pirating, because some countries allow piracy. Forget what the author/license says, Neowin is not bound to any specific nation and favors minority laws

QuarterSwede
I agree with Gameguy. Majority rules. It is the "fairest" way to go about settling things. Either that or Neobond and Redmak just say screw you, we aren't changing the rules ... actually, I can see them doing that.

david
By posting a picture of a pipe, doesnt mean they are promoting or glorifying marijuana. A pipe is an object used to smoke marijuana. A.K.R.
Maybe I should say it in another way: I don't support drugs or warez, although it's OK to discuss about them, as long as you don't go "Smoke weed! It's uber cool!" when discussing about drugs or go "Warez rocks! Download them here!" and providing a link to it in threads discussing warez. Fred Derf Veteran Posted August 18, 2004 Veteran Share Posted August 18, 2004 Minority? Please get your facts right. So since there is a minority of countries not prohibiting the use of narcotics It's a double negative. not prohibiting = allowing. Now go reread the sentance and everything will be fine. negative_0
So saying "cracks are good" should be disallowed too right since it's "glorifying" the use of cracks to circumvent software security? -

It doesnt tell/show how should one smoke. All pipes arent made for marijuana alone. I don't agree with your statement. The pipes in your pictures are required to smoke weed, according to my understanding. By showing off the equipment you need to use for the consumption of illict drugs, you are also saying, "Hey, look, you can smoke weed using such beautiful devices. Isn't it cool?" and hence promoting the use of drugs. You seem to be almost selling them.
