I would normally vote we shouldnt show them, but because I do happen to have alot of posts, it shows that I dedicate alot of my time to neowin.

People that post for post count however **** me off, scoobie was a prime example of this.

I'm asking a question on people's opinions. If you are saying that people's opinions on this subject are a waste. Don't bother reading this post or voting. Obviously since you do have an opinion on the subject, voted no obviously, then this question does have some relevance to you. How about posting your opinion on why or why we should not eliminate/keep post counts instead of avoiding the question by attacking my motivations for the poll.

I'm also pretty sure they do count: they count up.

In other words, I don't see the reason for removing them. Just because some people treat their post count like a contest? Let them.

Who cares, it just simply shows how frequently someone uses the forums and its a general indication of their time with neowin and their useful posts, because if you havent noticed people who comes here just to get high post counts like oh say Scoobie, generally dont last too long.

True enough. As i said in another thread. Your post count signifies no more than how often you visit/use/contribute to neowin.net. It is not a measure of one's IQ, nor is anyone with a right mind impressed by it.

As always, its quality not quantity that is important here people. And yes, people like Scoobie, who are all about post count, generally get flamed to hell anyhow.

its people bringing this up that cause all the hassle! If you feel insecure about posting crap- then please dont post it! But if you want to post- then post away! The post count- as some one said above does reflect one or many of a few things :

1. you post ****e

2. you frequent here alot

3. you love neowin

4. you only post quality stuff

you know who the people are that just post ****e- but you also know the ones that post good stuff. dont worry about posts about " i got 3 posts" - mods are aware of this as a rising problem and are actively removing / monitoring posts of this genre.

I personally think that keeping post count are good- it gives you some indication of the members status in the comunity....

Post count stays. :devious:

If you think someone is wasting post e.g scoobie, then just put him on ignore, ive never used this feture befor but iam sure it works wonders.

Without post counts there would be no "Do post counts, count?" threads or any "W00t, My nth post threads", 2 good reasons for why they might be removed. And many people seem to just see them purely as a measure of their status. Personally I don't give a damn either way, I don't judge someones reply by their post count but the quality and rationale of their information.

It is possible to hide postcounts, I know of a forum which does (some of you know AF). They are not totally wiped, just semi-hidden (they are accessable through profile viewing).

I'm not sure if we need to do this at Neowin. Although, I would rather be judged by the content of my posts. :ermm:

I also don't think the issue of the "postcount threads" would be a big deal if people were sensible about it.

BTW, is my avatar still showing up as some boxing cartoon girl? :s

I agree aco. The post count should stay. Users simply need to exercise some common sense about it.

And aco, yeah... its still showing betty boop :D

Isnt it amazing how the Minority can rule.

EItherway I agree with something Mr Magoo said, and that it gives some indication of members status in the community.

Exactly everyone likes to have a place, and a rank as such. Makes people feel their getting somewhere.

We all know the feeling especially when you see that defualt neowin handle move up a rank. Now im not taking away from the quality not quantity issue but its an impersonnal thing which some people tend to percieve as a measure of their status at neowin, its all just good fun.

If anything I say add a few more of those default handles in.
