Programming Help

Question

Hello, im new here so i dont quite know how things work but im looking to get into programming. Ive built myself a computer by scratch so im not a complete n00b at computers and construction but programming i know nothing. As a profession i am looking to get into computer programming or repair and im only 16 so i have some time. The only thing i know is the name of the languages such as C++, Visual Basic, Java, etc. but i know how none of them work. I am familiar with web programming such as HTML and PHP for i am a graphics/web designer but i am looking to learn how to program computers. what id like to know would be the most important language to learn, how it would help me and what i could use it for. im not looking to use my programming for games, but for useful programs i could create for windows, or computers or other things. and although i know DOS is not a programming language i could maybe use it to understand it better incase an internal programming problem ends up in my computer. my solution has always been... re-format. haha. but yes, if someone could please assist me in some questions about basic programming, it would be greatly appriciated. i am deeply sorry if i have used up unneccasry room in your forum and i totally understand if the time needed for my questions is not available. i would really enjoy to know and beccome a part of this community. thank you.

- I will be creating a sig/av soon. thanks.

U should try something easy first don't start straight with c++ ... Go with java and visual basic and if u like it then go on for more complex

For java it could greatly improve ur web programming

whatever u do i wish u good time !

^ i agree, so how much money is in computer programming or repair?

There can be plenty of money in programming ($45-80+ thousand a year)

Computer repair, their is virtually no money in it. ($30-40 thousand a year)

Thats how it is in New Zealand anyway

yea. i dont know about money either. i might try to satrt a computer business with building them and selling them. b\c u can build a decent computer for around 800 and sell it for twice that much. so if i start with java or visual basic, it will lead me into c++? what exactly is c++"

If you can handle Java, then you shouldn't have trouble picking up C++. The only thing that will give you trouble for a while is pointers and a few differences in syntax and the fact that when you're done with some variable you have to delete it. But since Java is based off C++, you should be able to pick up C++ easily. If you start with VB on the other hand, you might have trouble picking up another language since all the major languages use a C/C++ syntax.
