Chaning System Tray Icons ?

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to change the icon of a program that sits in the system tray (IE MSN - Norton Products etc. .) I have a number of programs running in my system tray, and the icons for a few of them are realy poor. If this is possible could you let me know please ? I am wanting to use some icons from shell32.dll instead of the original ones if this is possible ?

Thanks

First of all you should have hardly any programs running in the system tray, as each one slows your computer and eats CPU time. I never understood the point on Norton Autoprotect. As long as you block all the front doors (Email, downloading, disks) then you don't need autoprotect running all the time. I've never had a virus, and I've never used autoprotect.

Anyways, I don't think you can natively do this in windows XP, but I believe there is a program out there that lets you load stuff into the tray, and I think configure the icons - anybody?

Resource editor and then just going into one of the DLL's and changing the appearance. Like in AIM, aimres.dll you can change the system tray icons in that, by finding the right one and replacing it, then going through all the steps to replace the file
