Jambooo
Hi everyone! Whilst browsing the I,N,S forum today... I came across another thread asking which alternative 1GB providers are avilable. I think neowin needs organised, clean, easy to find lists of things like this to prevent certain forums getting clogged up by the same old stuff. Far too many questions are getting asked far too many times. If the information was available from the start without people having to crawl through pages and pages just to find it, it would make things a lot easier. Keep up the good work, Lee. john smith 1924 Veteran Posted August 24, 2004 Veteran Share Posted August 24, 2004 Hi Lee, thanks for the idea. I agree, it would be nice if we could setup a wiki / something along those lines to establish a good reference point for regularly asked questions. Jambooo
the lazy people would sure benefit :) Didn't mean it like that   Just there's been times where i've been trying to find something quick, and I end up spending around 15 mins looking before finding it. This board is so huge that it means useful threads get pushed to the bottom very quickly.

bangbang023 Veteran Posted August 25, 2004 Veteran Share Posted August 25, 2004 Withthe amount of posts here at Neowin, things are bound to be asked continually. If people can't read a damn stickied post in the browser forums so they know ehere to properly post, what makes this or a wiki any different? It won't be read. Simple as that. Steffan
Stickies are fine. perhaps a red icon pin instead of the blue...Report, people. I agree. Stickies need to stand out more. A lot of people think they are normal posts and ignore them.

dL
Yes, sometimes I find it hard to find something. E.g. I know in August 9th newspost, there is the Neowin's SP2 Slipstreaming Guide. Well! I may be stupid at searching, but I have to go back to the August 9th newspost to click on the news, then click on the More Info. Isn't there a faster way? dL
Joel
I agree. Stickies need to stand out more. A lot of people think they are normal posts and ignore them. Yeah, it's really hard to identify threads locked to their own section of a given forum!

Jambooo
Well I know this is starting to sound quite petty but here goes. I know at the end of the day it's not really important at all but I started a thread... so god dammit i'm gonna finish it :) I don't think many people understood the context of what I was trying to say in my first post. No matter how many sticky's there are, people still don't seem to see them, and post useless topics over and over (and over) again. You can imagine it gets quite frustrating when you're looking for a good read or an opportunity to help someone and you're looking at a question you saw yesterday. I personally don't like the stickys cause they take up a lot of space on forum index pages... they also sometimes turn what could be a useful reference/resource into a totally off topic dicussion meaning you have to crawl loads of pages/posts to get to the point. What I think we need is short and sweet lists including the basic facts and interesting links/references for stuff such as: Common applications Fonts E-mail providers Bulletin Boards Graphics manipulation packages Browsers ISPs Note: I knows there's some perfectly OK threads for some of the above.. I was just giving examples from the top of my head I think this would get rid of a few of the common questions such as "Which ISP is the best?" or "What alternative e-mail providers are available" and make way for more interesting threads. It also means if we need to find a small snippet of information we can find it in a few clicks.. Everybody's happy! We don't need a massive new feature, but just some more "Handy Links", most of which say "will be added soon". I know most of you are still refusing to agree in any feasable way so please don't respond with silly answers. Thanks..
WishX
EYE PEE BEE TWO POINT OH FINAL! Lots more flexibility and the skin coding is better as well. I agree that some things should stand out more like pinned topics. I'm sure we'll be looking back over all these suggestions and more when the time comes.
