A.K.R.
Just now, while performing some search requests, I encountered a lag. Then, when the pages were loaded properly, I noticed this: [ Script Execution time: 49.1320 ] [ 11 queries used ] [ GZIP Disabled ] [ Server Load: 5.79 ] I was once told that if the script execution time goes beyond 45, then we may need to worry. Here, the script execution time reads 49.1320. Is this a sign of a problem? And this was not the highest number I saw. Just now, that number was in the 50's range. This was not only the anomaly I have encountered on Neowin today. Earlier this morning (Singapore Time), I kept encountering database errors. Was there some work going on the servers, or was there something else happening? The weird thing was, I was able to use the Live Chat function normally while the database error occurred. shockz
High loads and/or long execution times usually indicate that a database backup is currently in progress. Nothing is currently wrong with the server(s). Another possible reason is an increase in hits/users browsing the forums.
A.K.R.
High loads and/or long execution times usually indicate that a database backup is currently in progress. This should then explain why I also got database errors this morning, as I'm sure not that many people were logged in at that time.
Chode
So the page DID load. Therefore, this is not a Site nor a Forum issue  I am sick to death of these threads.

[ Script Execution time: 0.0212 ] [ 11 queries used ] [ GZIP Disabled ] [ Server Load: 0.52 ] Is Neowin under attack  i've never seen such high loads before! :o ( For the lightly retarded people, i was kidding. )

Try a server load of 40+, or even 200+. We have been told that the server load number means nothing. We should ignore this number. What we should really worry about is the script execution time; if it's >45, then we may have something to worry about.

When it goes above 15 for this kind of server, thats when you will start to see really high execution times, and slow loading. Sometimes the execution spazzes out for no reason also. Oh and AKR, read the bottom of his post, he was kidding.
JMann Veteran Posted August 25, 2004 Veteran Share Posted August 25, 2004 Neowin, is NEVER under attack. Jesus. Its just a lot of users on the server or a lot going on, just chill and WAIT. :)

Jambooo
Yea maybe a backup. How often do the Admin's take backups? I have noticed neowin running extremely slow the last couple of days. Especially when posting. Posting takes somewhere in the region of 20-35 seconds as apposed to the standard 2-3 seconds BTW: [ Script Execution time: 22.5434 ]

I just noticed in the above posts that gzip is off. Doesn't that save a lot of bandwidth especially for a site like neowin along with less load times for us

Or something like that, I'll search for it. Edit: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...=194569&hl=gzip
