you need to specify a user or IE will try some annoymous crap. Oh, and use a REAL ftp client, not fu cking IE, m'kay?

Yeah i know about the anonymous crap. i was pointing out the funny boom chick stuff. I think i know how to use FTP.

And I always check out FTP's first with IE so i dont have to waste time opening my FTP client and copying and pasting just to find out there's nothing good.

I didn't bother posting this last night cos people seemed to have moved away from the bandwidth stuff, but now I've got up again....

There should be no problem with a single 10 Mbps pipe: look at the neowin server stats. The average at peak time last night was about 850k. Ok, granted there is no chance of getting 10 Mbps on the college connection, but if the main neowin server is only pumping out 850k per second, what are sigs that most people will have cached require? Not that.

I would say you're safe from being shut down for the minute....

Two questions:

1: is this HTTP accessible?

2: Any reason why this is timing out?

LIST -aL

150 Opening data connection for directory list.

Connection closed. Server timeout.

425 Cannot open data connection (10060).

421 Connection timed-out !

Connection closed.

uh...no, you still have no clue.

DNS doesn't determine your IP....You can't change the MAC address on a NIC, that's in hardware...You're talking about using 1/32 of your school's bandwidth, which WILL get you shut down...

You're not going to be running the next f ucking simtel.com or somthing. You'll be lucky if you get more than 3 people connected at once. I have a site for a community of more than 100,000 and I barely reach 4 connections as a max.

Plus, what happens at the end of the simester when you move out to a different room, or go home for the summer? This will last you two months at most.

Educate yourself please.

um u need to educate urself a bouncer will make it not trace back to the school, i can provide a bouncer

hey all,

im glad to see that alot of you got to connect and download that file and get some good speeds. i put a timeout feature on there so that i dont have people idleing too long on the server. i have it set for 60 seconds. so if you do not anything after that time you will be booted, not banned, this is just clarify any misunderstandings.

im getting alot of great support from a lot of members. unfortunately the webmail server here on my campus is having some issues, so i cant get to my email for a bit, but i will andwer all of them ASAP.

thanks for the patience and i'll post an update as to uploading stuff later tonight!!

sorry if some of you couldnt connect earlier today...

there was a scheduled maintenance defrag on the drive this morning and it screwed up the server and the box had to be rebooted.

its back up now and im analyzing the the logs from last night. so far they are impressive. at one point there were 8 people connected 7, being broadband downloading at the same time at around 980k/sec!! not too shabby.

tonight im going to work with some people who i have selected to work on this project to finalize the system that we are going to use to upload files and also have a general download section for random files.

if you have anything you would like to see out this ftp server, please post them here and see where we can go with this.

thanks to all the participated last night and stressing the server!!!

What about stress testing HTTP? I assume that you will be serving the HTTP using a different program that could handle the loads differently.

HTTP is required if peeps are realisticly going to be using the server for hosting sigs, etc...
