i don'y see the point vinh ?

the problem was.. the #neowin had like no one in there xcept me and spear..., since those others sites had chans too, and they are all in the same "way" talking about betas, found the idea good about having 1 chan, now its not dead, and theres always someone talking :) not only bots rofl.

faction!! didnt saw you there damn!

oh btw guys how do you put your messengers (yahoo, msn, icq and all) status in your sigs ????

as I said 2 neo b4, chat aint going 2 work if your not on a popular network, ppl want other channels (wont say what they are) but if they aint there, they wont bother sitting in some useless network

Aint going to work?

Traffic for 31Mar2002 - 107kb

Traffic for 01Apr2002 - 103kb

Traffic for 02Apr2002 - 335kb

Traffic for 03Apr2002 - 388kb

The channels merged on the 2nd of april.

The new shared channel is now active and alive 24/7, whereas both previous channels were only alive for the best part of a few hours a day.

Oh, and the former channel currently has a linkbot. Its not as nice, but still people can see the new channel while just being on undernet.

A while back, I thought the ideal was too good to work. But I was wrong. Its working perfectly. The channel is thriving. People are beginning to realise that just because they belong to one board, it doesnt mean they need to fell hostility towards all others. Everyone in the channel has good relations with each other. Looks like its working so far to me... dunno about everone else...

If people dont want it to work, true, it aint going to work. However if people are prepared to accept the idea, and learn to like it, it has A LOT of potential.

Zone-MR is right. He and I gave this idea many many hours of debate and talk and we finally decided to go for it. He invited Neowin, I invited ieXbeta. The chans merged on April 2nd, and since then, as I told Bug, we have had double the normal traffic we normally get, someone is now there talking 24-7. One channel alone might not have a good chance of surviving, but when we combine our users into one common channel it turns out to be much better, as can be seen by the stats Zone posted.

yeah your both rights guys!

and what guys need to see is that a chat wont "kill" the board, it just a 2nd way to talk and chill with each others, echanging files and all stuff everyone in the same place!, im looking to put a server that serv betas available on sites on it. we gonna discut this there :)

see you on the chat!

cheers,

Also, for all those skeptics out there who insist "three networks and one channel won't work" i'd just like to present some information:

On April 1, 2002 #beta had an average of 12 people online

On April 2, 2002 once Neowin merged, the channel came up to about 22 people

On April 2, 2002 once ieXbeta merged, the channel was up to almost 40 people

The fact is, having a channel with more people will generate more interest because there's actually someone to talk to. Whereas before no one wanted to go to an empty / quiet channel, now they see that its alive, well, and maybe a bit more help than it was before.

Also, the advantage of having our own network is huge. We can now make the rules, and set up things that would be nearly impossible on a network such as DALnet, etc. We can have a "chat viewer" that lets people interact with their forum usernames (see rockycentral.tk, betaone.net, adtw) and can also have tons of interactive services an alerts...

When you compare the advantages and disadvantages, you can clearly see that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. :) :D
