Moved Thread Links

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to disable the links that appear in a forum when a topic is moved? At peak time the general forum seems to have more moved topics listed in it than 'real general' topics.

If the links wern't listed, I think it would encourage people to look in the other foums and possibly post in the 'right' forum to start with.

Sample screenshot. 1920x1200@32bit. Only 60kb JPG. You have been warned!

Just my two cents,

Dan.

I agree with this mate really I do.. but guess what.. if we move without links people start threads with topics like "WTF happened to my post!"

I think we could be more harsh when it comes to posting in the correct forum. People who post topics and are longer term members should know better. We will have a think about this.

People just use General for everything, which defeats the object of all these other forums members requested themselves ;)

Damn, this is gettin' ridiculous... it's getting kinda old coming into the GenDis forum and seeing 90% of the topics moved to other forums... how about reading the rules before you post fer pete's sake!! Put it where it belongs!

yeah, you're probably right... it just gets kinda frustrating because nobody actually reads the rules posted in this very forum, much less in the "Forum Issues" one..... *sigh*

I hate all these arrows myself.

Been thinking of moving them without leaving a link but then everybody will think their post has dissappeared and start posting about that :p

To bad that vBulletin does ask what forum you want to post to regardless where you are when you click on 'New Thread'.

It would force people to choose a forum before posting.

I'm less annoyed by it's occurence from *newbies* then I am by those who've been here for months or have say 300+ on their post count. But I'm thinking the mods should start making it clearer where they moved it from/to, why, and the consequences of continuing this behavior, like:

MOVED FROM THE xxxx FORUM BECAUSE THIS POST BELONGS IN THE yyyy FORUM. FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH PROPER POSTING PROCEDURE IN THE FUTURE CAN (THAT IS, WILL) LEAD TO SERIOUS TAUNTING -- YES, MANY TIMES.

I don't think it's right to get in too much of a twist about this. This Forum has so many boards and quite frankly, most people never explore beyond their immediate interests.

One draw back to so many forums is that when you post in some forums, you never get an answer. Since it is obvious that most people go into the General Discussion Forum, you have a better chance of finding help or getting an answer here. There are 16 different computer related forums here. I answered a question on one of them about a week ago, and I'm still the last post on that thread.

If you ask me, Neowin needs to go on a diet.

If you go to another site, like computing.net, they have six or seven forums total and most problems have multiple responses since people looking for a certain type of information might see someone's post, who needs information or help that they can provide.

Bigger does not mean better. This place is too compartmentalized, and that inhibits the free flow of information.

If I were the King of Neowin, there would be a forum for each O/S, there would be a General Discussion forum and and a hardware forum and that's it. If someone posts a General Discussion question in the WinXP board . . . Who cares? I mean is it really that big of a deal?

Not to mention that moderating a forum with fewer boards would be a whole ton easier.

Actually, I think that this thread is kind of anal. No offense intended.

Stay inside the lines people . . . the lines are your friends.

I hate having good posts pushed back for ****ing arrows. Post in the right forum ppl. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that "new nvidia drivers" belongs in driver forum.

What's more sick is the read before posting thread, which has been up for months, has only been read 500 times. There are 10,000 members.

1/2 the posts here are arrowed!!!!

As Goalie says, when it is blatantly obvious where a post should go, then yes, you deserved to be smacked. Please think before posting. It does get frustrating when staff are continually having to move your threads.

I can appreciate that sometimes, threads do not seem to belong in one specific category, or are sutiable to multiple forums, but just do your best, think about it. Staff will move the thread if we find it to be more suitable elsewhere.

Heh, funny you should say that, your the mod that moved a driver question from the driver forum to the hardware forum.

yeah well, im still human. We make mistakes. And as i said, posts are not always clear on their subject. Especially when people give them obscure names. Mods can be wrong too.

Yes... it is about half. I would like to see threads from now on, moved without leaving redirectors. This will help keep things clean. People should put a little more thought into their decision to post.

Thanx Goalie, yeah i saw it, just wanted to register my two cents. I think this is a good idea, and staff should begin giving it a go. As, as has been said, those members who have been here much longer should know by now.

Perhaps if it were just possible for the redirectors to be hidden perhaps, i dont know. Anyhow, yeah.... lets just start moving without redirectors. See how it goes you think ?
