Dead Messiah
First it was Yahoo! took away the usage of FTP programs for free GeoCities pages, then they took away the right to get Yahoo! mail through a client, now they've crossed the line. Yahoo! closed down my GeoCities's site (I don't know about anyone elses') so they can start making GeoCities like RealNetworks. Meaning making it hard to find the free stuff. When I tried to sign up again an error poped up. I just used my GeoCities site to store images and small files. It's sucks because I had a lot of my images that I use on the web on there and now they're gone. If anyone knows of a reliable free ftp server please let me know. All I want it for is images & very small files. Thanks in advance. -Dead Messiah

Keldyn
After reading this i decided to check on mine, and all files appear to be intact and reachable. Although, for how much longer this remains to be seen..... *Shakes fist* damn you Yahoo !! :s

xpablo
I too also had a geocities site removed, I can still login with that username and pw, but no file manager, then it advertises for "Free" web page , go to sign up and get error message "unable to process error" Yet I have another site on Geocities that I've had to forward to my main website for the past 2 years and it's still up :) This site has been on Geocities since 1995, this maybe why ???? Geocities was good, until them Yahoo idiots took over. Tripod/Lycos is not much better either. Netfirms is cool but you can't put framed sites up, as their banner interfere's. :s But excellent for free CGI hosting. I use a banner Free web host now, but to be Free I have to Register Domain name @ full price with them. I get 1gb bandwidth/month & 20mb webspace & 10 email's for free but CGI,PHP and FP Extenstios etc.. are all extra $$$.

Mark Otto
yeah well the free internet we used to know of the 90's has gone down the ****ter as we know it...corporate *******s are screwing us all (AOL, MS, Yahoo!, etc.)... the internet is soon just gonna be a paid service and/or run by one company that will dominate the market...but sucks that this happened to u, hope it dont happen to me :D DAMN YOU YAHOO!  :D

nXP_151 Veteran Posted April 6, 2002 Veteran Share Posted April 6, 2002 It's a shame if a free service goes a payware service. Yahoo email start charging the user if the user wants to keep using the service. Now the Geocities and such is really ripping the user off....I am disgusted at the way they treat the user, luckily I don't use my Geocities account anymore. Huh Yahoo thinks they are the best ? eat my short  .
